Radiator flush, question?

Radiator flush, question?
Hi there,
I drained my rad the other day, was following instructions on some site which said to add 3 gallons of fluid then top the rest of the system up with water. Wish I had done my reseach and discovered that I should have mixed it 50/50 before hand. Going to get a gauge and test the solution, not sure where I stand. Think I am pretty close to 50/50. Gonna buy a tester tomorrow.
My question is,
During the last couple of day there seems to be a buring smell coming from the engine. It has never done this before, I am thinking it's either the fluid gasing off or the metal on the new thermostat heating up and changing it's properties. I have been keeping the overflow tank full, seems to be still sucking a bit of fluid back from time to time. Been keeping my eye on the temp, does not go above 90ish on the trucks guage and 186 or so on my commander module.
Just want to make sure it's happy, not over heating or any potential damage.
Thanks
