Question on Fuel additives

If I use a name brand additive for fuel lube at the same time I add from a different bottle a strong injector cleaner will they cancel each other out? Will the cleaner, clean away the lube?

Which two are you trying to mix?

I used to mix OptiLube summer blend with Power Service just so it was easier to pour.

Shouldn't be a problem.

Just as a heads up, a cheaper solution for lubrication a lot of us are using is a TCW3 rated 2 stroke mixture oil.

Here is what I use:
20 oz. Dieselkleen
12 oz. TC-W3 {2 cycle oil}
1/2 oz. per gal.of diesel fuel in tank

I do this about every other tank.
Just my use others may have a different formula.

Typically it's 8oz per tank for me. Walmart Super Tech TCW3 is very cost effective if bought by the gallon.

Ill look at getting some 2 stoke oil.

What I am really trying to determine is, if I use Injector Cleaner at the same time I am using a diesel fuel lube will the cleaner burn away the lube and waste it?

I had #4 injector go bad back in Nov 2014. I had none of the early warning signs of hard cold cranking, white smoke at crank, vib at 1500 rpm ect... Just pulled out of driveway and check engine came on and motor went to high idle and missing very bad. There is a shop within 1/2 mile I pulled in. Computer said misfire on #4. Bad injector. I was not told of any codes. I had a injector shipped in and they replaced it. Motor has ran great ever since. I know that the odds of one or more going bad now at 106K miles is the same as the first one. I wish I could do a pole and see how many people have had one go bad and no other ones fail for a good many miles. I have owned the truck for 3 years and only put about 15 k miles on it. Just use it to pull a 13k fifth wheel. I know the other owner ran a lot of jet fuel in it. (he had free access to it) I don't know how much lube and cleaner he used. I have no used hardly any until the failure. Now I am double dosing .

Has anyone had any failures like this, started using lubes and cleaners and good filters (I use Baldwin filters) and avoided other failures?

I really do not understand why anybody uses additives in the fuel. It is BS. It is an utter waste of money. I suppose the reason is the same as why some folks buy high test, high octane fuel. You know, if it's more expensive, it must be better. Please explain, in correct engineering terms just what problem they are avoiding with the use of an additive?

The shop I use sees 3rd gens in having injector replacement typically at about 140K. There are exceptions though. Most do not have extra filtration.
However, there has been at least one with added filtration.
They see the same issues on Duramax's,the only difference being 4x the labor and more expensive Bosch injectors.
Ford's come in too but are referred to a Ford specialist. They won't deal with them.
For longevity it's pretty obvious the 12v and 24 v injectors are the best.

There's a lot of history with the early CR injector design failures for both Cummins and Duramax due to fuel filtration and lubrication. ASTM recommends a maximum HFRR of 520 microns for ULSD #2 yet the injector manufacturers (Bosch) recommends 460 microns. We pretty much already know US diesel fuel quality isn't that great and the refiners will use the bare minimum to maximize their profits.

Steve, diesel fuel in Germany is much high quality than it is here so you have nothing to worry about.

I mix twc3 and diesel kleen 2 parts oil one part cleaner. One oz per gallon of fuel at every fill up, haven't had an injector issue since starting that. I also have a 2 micron filter after the stock filter/water separator. I have a gauge after both filters so as to know when filters need changing.

I have run power service (white bottle winter, grey bottle summer) for 161,000 miles with no injector problems.
