HELP & Question about P2146 code

Ok so I did some searching on here. So I have a 2005 with 134,000 on it 5.9. Where should I look first? I am on the road dealing with a death in the family and I don't want to just wheel into some average shop and get taken. What advice or is there any thing I can do myself to check? The truck is running rough with loss of power. I have access to a heated shop with tools, thanks for any tips.

• P2146 Bank 1 (Cylinders 1-3) Shorted High Or Low

Check the plug on the driver side valve cover edge, make sure its connected or not loose. Be real carful if you take it off when you put it back on so you don't bend a pin. If all looks good on the outside, the wires to the injectors could be grounded inside were it passes through the valve cover.

Some one else who has delt with this needs to chime in. Here is what it looks like. Cylinders 1-3 connector. This one has a Juice connection on it, but this is the location.

Don't know if you could drive it without hurting it. I would tow it, if it were me, but its your call. Problem is you don't know when the injector will fire if you drive it. A harness can be purchased from Cummins or dodge if bad.

To properly test the harness, remove valve cover and disconnect connectors on injectors (youi will get a false reading if you don't). ohm the harness and wiggle wires. make sure ohm readings don't fluctuate when wiggling wires. if they do then there is your problem. also while you are there, ohm the injector since you already have the harness removed from the injector. each injector should read below 1.0 ohm. anything over 1.0 is a bad injector.

That code usually means you have a bad solenoid on an injector. Check the injectors first.
