To pull the head & what else should I do while engine is out ?

I pulled the engine out of my 03 today. Found the source of the engine knock to be the number 6 wrist pin. While the engine is out I am going to go ahead and put new rings and rod bearings in it.
The engine has 204,000 miles on it and I am amazed at the cleanliness of the insides. Anyway what else should I do that won't cost alot but is wise to do now? Should I definately replace the oil pump ?

Also, I am pulling the head tomorrow. As long as I keep everything where it goes, is there any adjustments needed when putting it back on. A buddy of mine told me that everything needs readjusted after pulling a diesel head. Is this true ?
Thanks, Dan

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Since you have it out. REplace the front and rear crank seals. May need a seal saver sleeve from Cummins or Dodge. Replace the famous to leak side cover gskt if has it. Make sure and keep pistons in orginal holes. Light hone should be fine. Don't resurface cyl head unless really necessary. Have valve job and valve guides replaced. Don't get sold on hairline cracks around valves causing head to be junk. Unless really deep is not problem. Get the injectors tested while head off. Oil pump probablly O'k. Always adjust valves. Use torque wrench on clean bolts with very light amount of oil on threads. I's sure there is more but that gets you started.

When you have the pan off....check and make sure that the plastic oiling nozzles for piston cooling are still in place. Especially on the #6 hole.

They run down the side of engine block and are inserted into holes that tap off an oil galley that runs the length of the block.
