Puked waterpump today..

Once you remove the belt and drain the coolant, the rest is simple. The pump utilizes 2 - 10 mm bolts. The housing to block surfaces are sealed with an o-ring that comes with the new pump. Make sure to install the new pump with the weephole facing toward the ground. Once the new pump is on and the 2-10mm bolts are snug, torque the bolts to 18ft.lbs.

Wow... I can't believe the dealer price for that pump. My old one came off so easy I was shocked.... BUT...... the headache came when putting the new one on.
Turns out that the housing on my pump had about 1/16 of an inch extra cast iron that was hitting the front gear cover. Wrestled with it for over an hour trying to figure out why the bolt hole wouldn't line up. Then I noticed a little scraped off paint from the cover. A few well placed scrapes with the die ginder and it went right in.
On an aside, I keep seeing that guys say to make sure that they put the weep hole facing down. Maybe i'm crazy, but the design of the pum only allowed me to put it on one way (hole was facing down that way anyways). If I tried to flip it it was a clear no go.
If only every part on our trucks was this easy to change out.

Just got a call from Chrysler Customer Assistance. Said they would cover the pump minus a $100 deductible. I dont think there was a $100 deductible on the original warranty but hey, for $100 I'll let someone change my pump for me. Only thing I found odd was that I had to submit a fair bit of documentation to get reimbursed the $514. Then wait 4-6 weeks for check to arrive. Beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick..

Thanks for the info and support!! Changed mine with no major loss of blood!
The hardest part was getting the pump bolts out blind! I actually removed a bolt just above the top pump bolt before I realized it was the wrong bolt!! Put back in asap, don't think anything moved before I got it back in? I still wonder what it held in place? Fan Mount or something???
Anain THANKS!!
P.S. I did take the fan shroud lose, it helpd with clearance.

Mine went out about 20 minutes from home a couple of months ago. I heard a strange noise from the engine sitting at the stop light. Sounded like something hitting the fan. Rolled down the window and smelled anti freeze. Said a few "choice" words and drove it home another 20 miles keeping an eye on the temps. They never went any higher than normal. When I got home I could see the water pump pully moving in and out about 1/4" and wobbling a tad. Went to Advnace Auto Parts. Brand new, not remanufactured pump was$46 out the door for me. Last fall I had already bought a new thermostat, fan belt, and 4gal of HOAT antifreeze. Took me a couple of hours since I was in no hurry. Gotta love Cummins for the simplicity and ease of maintenance on their engines. I didn't drain anything. Just popped the pump off and let it geyser out. Two buckets caught most of it. The blanket got the rest.

How many miles are you guys getting out of the factory pumps? I'm just under 70k, so mine should be covered right? I've got coincidental timing going on here as mine seems to have gone out at the exact as time i was involved in an accident a week ago. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...highlight=fool Not sure how a collision could have made the pump fail when it didn't even get into the radiator, but thats the first time it ever leaked.

Dont know why mine has lasted so long.. 356k. Im getting nervous plus my truck seems to be running a bit hotter up mtn passes. Already changed the tstat. Changing out the water pump too for good measure. My fan hub is prolly about worn out. Ive seen some semi water pumps that had the impeller lose on the shaft and have seen some that had the impeller fins show some erosion on the blades. Both were having heating issues up mtn passes. I feel my pump has given me good service, so will change it out.
