Well, this is what I get for mentioning last week that my truck hit 100K miles and it had been awsome and trouble free. Got to work today and smelled antifreeze/gear oil. Looked under the truck and sure enough, fluid. Overflow was empty as well as the radiator. Had it towed to the nearest dealer, Northwest Dodge in Houston on 290. Said they would attempt to work me in and get me on the road sometime today. Cant ask for more than that. My dealerr is 80 miles away so I'll take what I can get. 100,945 miles. Think Chrysler or Cummins will work with me? Say a small prayer...In the meantime..I have a several hours to kill..

 

That really stinks. Hope they work with ya on it.

In and out in 4 hours. Not bad for no appointment and being worked in. I dont know the deal but I had to call Chrysler for a warranty blessing. Keith at Chrysler said SOP for the request is that the request would be answered no later than 8:00 p.m. tomorrow. Of course I was in no position to leave my truck at the dealer so I paid. Keith stated that he doesnt see why it would not be covered or mostly covered but "I'm just the stenographer taking the information so dont get you're hopes up too much". The service writer mentioned that he'd seen folks get assistance at 20K miles over (really?). I hope they help some. They requried six, one hundred dollar bills and some change to bail out my truck. And I'd also like to thank Dave Ramsey for teaching baby step #2, the emergency fund. Makes moments like these a lot less stressful.

 

$600 Yikes! Just did mine last week, took about an hour and a $45 reman pump. Hope they at least cover part of it on warranty for you.

 

The pump they installed was new and not remanufactured. It was listed on the bill at $352. I was surprized at how small the pumps are on these. But I also noticed how small the pulley is so these things must spin at a high rate. I asked the tech about the thermostat being changed with the pump. He said it is not necessary just keep an eye on the gauge. It all appears to be working well. Took the usual 7 or so miles to get up to operating temp (outside temp was 80 degrees at 7:00 a.m.).

 

Mine went out a few months ago on my way to work.

It was the easiset pump I've ever changed! The hardest/longest part was getting the belt off. After that its two bolts and it comes right out. Also it uses an o-ring for sealing there is no residual gasket to scrape off. Was done in about 30min doing it in the parking lot at work.

New pump from NAPA was $140CDN.

 

I had one puke out at about the same time. 3 water pumps later, it's made it another 52k miles.

2 new ones seized up each within a week of each other.

 

$352 for a pump. Wow. Now i remember why i don't go to dealers. Autozone sells a new pump for $62, with a lifetime warranty and took me 30 minutes in a parking lot. No wonder chrysler went broke if they are paying out that much on the job.

 

I wonder how much Cummins would charge for a 5.9 water pump?

 

I changed my original at 200,000. It was still doing OK but I thought it was about time. Keep an eye on the idler pulley on the tensioner for wear, and the bearing in the big idler on top.

Rock Auto OE Bosch replacement, $50. I'd send someone just about anywhere other than a dealer unless it was totally covered by warranty. 30 minutes is about right to replace. One of the easiest waterpumps out there.

Ditto on Dave Ramsey. Why aren't our kids getting taught these simple basics. With the way things are, it sure is nice having the car, truck, house, kids college paid off, and a stash for truck parts. No more payments, ever (I hope).

 

Got mine from Genos. Brand new.... $39.99. Very easy to install.

 

Thats what i was thinkin around 40$ from cummins

 

Our Cummins dealer wanted $213. I think I will check Geno's or Rock Auto when I have more time on the next one in a year or two. I have never had good luck with the Napa pumps but it was the only one in town besides the dealership at over $300.

 

Welp, my water pump is weeping! Got the new, not reman, Advance Auto, 52$. Now, I see the pump, but is there any trick getting it out?? Looks as if the fan shroud will make it hard to get to and get in and out?
Any tricks for clearance??
