Question problems!

Can anyone tell me why my 05' would be using three quarts of oil a week! I have had a couple people say piston or rings but then i have had a couple say rear main or turbo. The truck only has 64,000 miles on it and it doesn't seem to have any loss of power. Has anyone else had problems after installing a boost fooler because it really didn't start till i put it on?

I wonder if that with some of your mods you have run your EGTs a bit hot and now have some issues with seals in the turbo. . .no expert but I would have thought you get some smoke with rings and spots on your driveway with most other leaks. If nothing else this reply will get the real pros to reply.

thanks for the reply

i appreciate the reply i didn't think anyone was goin to. I am gonna check the turbo this weekend and i hope thats all it is! A new turbo would be much cheaper than rebuilding an engine!

Cummins should cover that, email them and they'll tell you if you use X amount of oil every X hours or miles you are in need of a rebuild.

"If an engine uses 1 quart of oil per 10 hours, 400 miles, or 675 kilometers then it is time for a rebuild. This information comes from Warranty Alert--A0632."

That was part of an email from someone at cummins.

Yes but Cummins does not provide our warranty Dodge does. They are the ones that will decide. I know this because I emailed Cummins to ask the question how much oil use is acceptable. The reply I got went to great lengths in telling me that Dodge was responsible and would make the final call, but that they (cummins) would not look at anything unless it burnt more than a quart in 500 miles.

If it runs good, has good power, and gets expected economy, I would check the turbo first.
