Thumbs down Problem not axle, problem IS transfer case

Well what I thought was my axle popping turned out to be my transfer case. I haven't opened it up yet (wait til I get my other truck back on it's feet), but it seems as though something is jumping teeth or gears!?!? I have an old 231D t case out of my 95 and was looking at the inside of it, I can't think what would be slipping and only in 4x4 ?? Does the one on my 03 have a chain ?? Someone tell me what I may have here. I just bought this truck 2 weeks ago and have to wonder if the last owner knew about this. Not that I really give a crap since I got a good deal on it even if I had to buy a brand new t case which I am sure I do not.

Re: Problem not axle, problem IS transfer case

The transfer case does use a chain. Sounds to me like maybe it's stretched.
