Premium Diesel Fuel, what is it?

Yes, I have a seen a Co-op fuel station near Dowigac Michigan that sells Dyed diesel for farmers that drive their tractors there. And regular diesel, and also premium diesel, I asked and the guy said it was over 50 cetane and he thouight it had some more additaves. I did run a tank and it was a little quieter and seemed to run better. But I didn't think it was worth the extra 10 cents or so a gallon.

I stopped to buy fuel at a station on the interstate and when I went in to pay, the counter attendant told me I filled with "Premium Diesel Fuel". I am not a kid and have been around large diesel's (tractor trailers) since I was 13yrs old. I have never heard of Premium Diesel Fuel.
I understand that this post may reveal some ignorance on my part but, (ignorance can be corrected stupid is forever) can someone tell me what is Premium Diesel Fuel. I looked at the pump for a couple of minutes when I went back out and I could not find anything telling what made it Premium.

The funny part about the whole thing was when I asked the attendant what it was he said "OH! you must drive a Ford". When I said no. He blathered on about the different size nozzles and how the Ford and Dodge guys had troubles with the pumps flowing properly into our filler necks. When I asked him what that had to do with premium diesel he had no answer and got visibly mad at me. The other customers were pretty amused. Not 100% positive but I think it was a BP station.
