Precision 464's

Precision 464's or 351's
I just bought some Precision 464's for my front axle shafts. I took them out of the box and they have 351 stamped on them.
Is that right? Are they the same parts?
I'm sure i read some where about a batch in the wrong boxes. I got these from Rock Auto and had them shipped to the UK.

****! I thought that was the case. It's a real pain as i dont suppose they'll send out the right parts till i send the others back.
Trouble is i cant use the truck till it's done as it failed it's yearly inspection because of the U Joints.

Ok, i emailed Rock Auto re this and got the following response;
although the PRECISION Part # 464 universal joints you
received from us have the number 351 cast into the cross, these are still the
correct universal joints. Standard Motor Products recently changed the manner
in which they manfacturer part #464. Please read my explaination below which
explains this:
1. The old Standard Motor Products part# 464 had 464 cast into the cross where
as the "new 464" has 351 cast into the cross.
2. The "new 464" is around .070-.090" wider overall (measured across the part
itself and at the machined portion where the bearing cups contact the cross).
3. Standard Motor Products made up for the difference in the offset of this
part machining the retaining clip grooves further down the bearing cup.
In summary, Standard Motor Products is using the universal joint with the 351
cast to produce part# 464, which I imagine was done for the purpose of
reducing the manufacturing costs of producing part #464. Please note that we
have confirmed with other customer we have sold "new 464" that this part fits
correctly. We would also be very appreciate if you could make a post a reply
to the thread you found on the truck forum that discusses this.

I'm not sure why you want to replace all joints?? Unless you are suffering vibration problems or some indicator that you have problems, you will probably replace most of your joints for no reason. Then you'll put yourself at risk of a bad joint or a bad install or some other installation glitch.

i have vibration issues. all i wanna know is how mnany are there? i think 2 for back 2 for front ad the 2 by the hubs? are the ones at the front hubs different than the other 4? are the other four the same? i mean can i like order 4 * 351's or 4 * 464's?

Sally,
are you talking about driveshaft u-joints or axle u-joints. There are only 2 axle u-joints, those are in the front and the Precision p/n is 464. I'm getting mine from Oreily auto parts since they are the closest...napa also has them for the same price. If you talking about drive shaft u-joints then that's a different thing, I think we have 1410's??

1410 as in the number? what i mean is on rockautos site it lists tons of u joints. I have a 2004.5 ram 2500 4X4 diesel crew cab short box. up front for steering axle i believe is 464 and we need 2 of them. but what about the rest of the truck?do i get 4 = 351A's or 4 = 330A's or 4 = 534G's or 4 = 235's?I want precision GREASEABLE......see what i mean which ones?

Oh I C.
1340, 1350, 1410...the bigger the number the larger the u-joint, these are spicer numbers I believe.
I'm not exactly sure which ones we have, but i'm sure someone will chime in shortly.
IMHO i find it best to purchase parts like these from local vendors as it makes it easier to replace them if they are incorrect or a warranty item, that way you don't have to wait for shipping or play phone tag.
