Power Steering Problem

Power Steering Problem
Just throwing this out to see if anyone else has had this problem. Every now and then when I turn to the left, the steering gets real hard. The pump is not making any noise at all. It hasn't done this on a right turn, just to the left. Fluid is full and don't see any leaks. Checked around steering column and nothing touching it anywhere. Anybody ever had this happen? I sure hate to have to take to the dealer, but is under warranty.
Thanks Wayne

Mine did the same thing. What happened to me was that after 2 hrs or more of driving the steering would be hard to the left, the wheel would have to be forcibly moved back to the center positon, and the brakes would release and then grab a fraction of a second latter.
Turns out the fluid with in the system was boiling over. Thje dealership originally flushed the system out on Dc's request even though he wanted to change the unit out. The problem came back again and now they replaced the pump unit with what I assume is an upgraded one. So far so good. Gues my trip to BC will tell if it fixed it or not.
I would get it looked at and possible replaced.
Cheers

I was also stuck in that situation, but after a day the whole steering went out. A day after the brakes started to act up. I tried to flush the system of any air, but with no change. A mechanic diagnosed a p/s pump problem. He removed and tested and found that it was not the problem, but possibly the gear box. I guess there is a seal, which if torn, lets air into the system. I am going to have it re-built. One thing that i did notice before my system went out is that while i was making a hard left(u-turn) it started to make a mild screetching sound, then two days later, the steering problem began. Any of this happen to any of you?

My truck does the same thing. Except it is hard to steer in both directions. It doesn't do it all the time, but when it does it can be quite dangerous. If I don't get this problem solved, I can see myself hitting another vehicle pulling into parking spot someday.
There was significant leakage from the top of my power steering pump, and my steering stabilizer was leaking, so I took it in just before my warranty expired. They replaced the stabilizer and replaced a hose seal on the pump. This did not fix the problem. In fact as I was pulling away from the dealer the steering gave me trouble. I immediately went back, and wanted them to fix it but they informed me that I would have to take the service manager out for a drive to confirm the problem.
That's fine, but the service manager was away for 15mins. Well that 15min's turned into a couple of hours, and I couldn't wait any longer. They made a note of my complaint and said they would have no problem looking at it after the warranty expires.
Since that appointment I have been out of town working every day for almost six weeks, and I am now 3000km past the warranty, and my power steering pump is still leaking. I hope to get it into the shop later this week. It just really sucks that I have to spend my first day off in over six weeks getting my truck fixed.
