Question Power Steering Groan

I have noticed over the last few weeks that when I drive the truck and "slighty" turn the steering wheel to the right, I am getting a low level groaning noise. It appears to be coming from the Power Steering Pump. I can duplicate the noise while parked but it is not as loud as when driving it. Truck must be completely warmed up and at operating temp for it to do it and only does it when turning to the right slightly. Full turn doesn't create it, nor does turning to the left.

Took it to Dealer and service writer was able to hear the noise. Tech that worked on the truck said he couldn't duplicate it. When I duplicated it for him and the service writer, he said this is normal.

I don't believe any noise that wasn't there when I bought thing is normal. Especially one that is intermittent. Has anyone had any problems similiar and what was the fix for this?

Check your oil in the power steering pump.... I had the same problem with mine making the noise. The oil was nasty black and slimy. Canged it out - squeal is gone..... Hope this helps.

Yeah mine was mostly in the winter time. I got some valvoline synthetic Power Steering oil. Sucked out the old stuff and replaced. Much better now.
