power loss = lift pump?

Lately my truck has been losing power during accelleration, mostly above 2,000RPM. Engine is stock other than the Edge Juice. I installed a low fuel pressure light and it will come on under heavy accelleration even with the Edge set on 0. If I accellerate hard with the Edge on any level, it just dies past 2,000RPM. I could barely get it to go past 72MPH today. Acts like it's not getting any fuel. Noticed it takes a couple seconds longer to start too. Please tell me it's the lift pump.

How many miles does the truck have? Do you have any codes showing? If I had to guess, I'd say the LP with the FP light coming on, but I'm just a weekend do-it-yourselfer, not a mechanic.

it's always had a bunch of codes, I'll re-check them. 55,XXX miles.

you know that crossed my mind then slipped my mind in the time it took me to come here, hasn't been any more than 7500 miles, I'll throw a fresh one in and report back.

odd, I used to have a dozen codes or so, now the only one that shows up is 2149.

truck hesitated for a second and check engine light came on this morning, feels like it has even less power.

a search told me this is a problem with the Edge...

5,000 miles, it was black.

replaced fuel filter, resolved all problems. I can't believe how much power it took away.

so, thanks, I get pretty excited sometimes and the check engine light this morning was not a good way to start the day. still a little worried about the lift pump though.

It's amazing what a bad tank of fuel will do to a FF. Glad your problem is fixed for now. I replaced my lift pump with a Glacier Diesel 392 kit a while back. Easy install and I have no more LP worries...

I think you'll be all right. Believe it or not, I carry an extra Fleetguard fuel filter in my Dodge ALL the time, just in case I do get that tank fuel of crappy diesel.

It's a whole lot more convenient to pull over and change the fuel filter than it is to call a wrecker to haul me in case I do start losing power or die.

If you had continued driving with the fuel filter clogged up, it would have caused some problems with your lift pump.

When you turn the ignition on and the lift pump is clattering so bad you can hear it before you start the engine, it's time to change it. Don't put it off - change it ASAP!
