possibly buying a 05 CTD

Hey guys I am looking at a one owner 05 at the repo auction. I ran the carfax and it comes back clean. I was wondering how to find out just what options are on the truck with the VIN if there is a way. what i do know is it is a st/slt 4wd, quad cab, black with 113,000miles. is there a way i can find out what options are on the truck and what types of problems have you guys had with these trucks. I dont know anything about them as I am coming out of a 2000 ctd. thanks

My buddies ate serpentine belts, until he put a clutch? on it somewhere and it solved the problems. He loves his. I like his interior better than my 06, and also his overdrive is taller than my G-56 and better suited to bobtailing down intestate. Is it stick or auto?

No problems here. The early 05's have a plastic intercooler and no OD lockout in tow/haul mode. I also like the interior better than the 06+. You should be able to get a build sheet from a dealer with the VIN#.

My 05 has been virtually trouble-free - only issue is the seals around the front door often tear - look where the metal on the edge of the door bumps out and rubs the seal, just by the mirrors. Not a big expense to replace them with a redesign seal that fixes the problem

it is an auto i believe. what tq. and hp do these models come with, 305/555 325/610, i may be wrong on these numbers like i said i am not really familiar with these trucks. I will be either getting a 7.3psd crew cab or the 3rd gen. dodge. so i am trying to get as much info on both if you know what i mean.

Wow that is alot of power. do you guys have problems with the fuel systems on these trucks and how about the injectors, i know i have heard a little about them going bad or something. Just trying to find out how much stuff is before I go off and buy another truck. I want to make sure I can afford to fix it if you know what i mean.

Mine is a very early 05. Has the plastic intercooler, but never been a problem. Nor do I expect problems from it, since my truck is stock. No problems with anything else, either. It's a very good truck that puts a smile on my face every time I start the engine.

My serp belt was looking a little frayed on one edge, so I put on a new belt and tensioner after about 50,000 miles. Probably didn't need it, but I've heard on here and elsewhere that some of the 05's needed a new tensioner earlier that one might expect. Wouldn't want to get stranded on a trip or something.

At 113K miles its likely that you need either front axle u-joints or hubs or both, unless they've been replaced. The hubs are $250-300 each for the part (non-dealer...), and the u-joints about $50, plus most of a day of your or the dealer's time to do it.

So, I'd look at the steering knuckle closely for evidence of reddish rust dust deposits and check the u-joints for slop.

My 05 is great, only problem was the door seal tearing a bit, never did replace it yet. 53K on it so far.
