Is it possible to clog a Cat?

Is it possible to clog the CAT on our CR trucks. I tend to let the truck smoke a little more than I should and just wondering what all that unburnt fuel is doing to the cat. I seem to have a little more back presure lately.

Ive heard the higher temps due to the post shot keep the cat pretty hot and most soot burns off.

I give mine a good burn on Interstate on ramps. That pretty much blows out the exhaust. I could blow a pretty good cloud of black smoke when the truck was stock. The Smarty 4.11 software does not smoke a lot generally, so it acts the same way when I get on it.

I was wondering how you know there is an increase in exhaust back pressure?

I often wonder too as I blow a fair amount of smoke with my Jr, its not thick black all the time, but there is a constant black haze when accelerating....

My son is now a car salesman at a Dodge dealer and he had to sit thru some training recently, given by Dodge and addresses this very issue with the new CRD. they told them they need to inform customers that they need to drive it hard (get it hot) from time to time for because of this.

Yes you can plug a cat solid, even running them hot they are still susceptible to plugging, essentially it is only a matter of time till you have to deal with it.

I drug my travel trailer out camping this weekend and at the first onramp I blew a TON of black smoke, and felt doggy, even up thru 20 psi... then it cleared and I smoked less all weekend than I had in a lot time.. .I think my normal driving with the smoke from my Jr is enough to be hard on the cat... have to see how it smokes this week when empty to be sure....

Heck yeah they can, you'll know it when your exhaust manifold blows a gasket. Mine had a sheet of soot on the exit side of it before I cleaned it out good.

I had a dodge mechanic told me the CAT on a diesel is not constructed the same as a car. I also was told their pretty much a flow through unit and not much to it. Still have mine no problems with it so far.

I have seen it happen on a gasser before, got chocked up so bad that they couldn't get over 45 mph no matter how much fuel they dumped in her.

Cat's come on our truck's? Guess mine must have "feel" off somewhere.
