Popping noise while turning hard left or right
Just started the other day,,, So far after the warranty ran out Im up to almost a grand in repair charges,,,,so par for the course that something else is going wrong....anyway
I made a right turn into the driveway the other day and I heard a Pop, thump on the left side wheel area.. Made a good "not hard" left turn and heard the same the next day... The truck is not a 4x4 so there's none of that stuff to fail, only brakes, tracking bar and ball joints..I guess wheel bearings too.. any way I jacked up both tires and put my crow bar under and didnt see any looseness at all in the ball joints.. tracking rod seemd good too.. After turning the wheel hard in both directions a few times the sound has stopped....did I loosen somthing up? Maybe the steering rack?
Any thoughts?

Don't know if this is your case, but when I would turn and hit a bump it would knock hard. Dealership couldn't figure it out, so one day I looked myself. I realized the bump stops were MIA close to the shocks, and it would bottom out onto bare metal and not the bumpstop. i've heard this is an issue with the 2wds losing their bumpstops.

Dont mean to hijack this but Iv also got a 2 wheel drive and once in a while, making a hard right turn, I get a noice that isnt so much a popping as a "grinding" sound.
Iv looked at the front end and everything looks ok.
Any ideas??

I know when I fist discovered my problem I did have the dealership look at it, and they found something rubbing when the wheels were fully turned. he did some grinding and it helped out considerably. Check your steering linkages and give them full play, see if something is rubbing.

The steering yoke contacts the lower control arm on the left side when I turn hard right and hit a bump. I can see the marred metal on the yoke.
My answer... DON"T DO THAT!

Mine has done it from day one sometimes while turning left and a little off camber. One day I'll get under there and look, it's so much easier to just drive it. LOL, thats coming from a ASE Master Tech Auto and Master Medium/Heavy truck mechanic.

I inspected the whole thing yesterday and could not find anything outta place.. Was turning left yesterday evening and the thing sounded like something was getting ready to fall apart, but I be damned if I can find anything loose. could failing shocks be the source..
dale
I checked those end links and they were tight..
Ball joints- no play
steering rack- tight
track bar -tight
upper and lower A frame bolts- tight
shocks-tight

sounds like a track bar to me. How did you check it. Try having someone turn the wheel left and right a few times and watch the track bar. If you see it jump you will know. Or wait a few more days. Things like this don't go away they will come out and show themselves.

If your track bar is anything like the 4x4, thats exactly what that is. I just had a new axle put on and that EXACT thing happened and guess what....the track bar wasnt tight enough! So get about 150-170 ft/lbs of torque on both ends and your good.
