Over twenty sounds very possible to me next summer when I get a few more miles on her. I'm only at 8200 now and have had the reflash.
your hand caluclations are about the same as mine with 50/50 driving. i have yet to see over 18 on the freeway though. it doesn't seem to matter if i baby the truck around or not. it still gets about the same.

oh well, like i said, i didn't buy the truck for mileage. the truck weighs 8500lbs and still gets around 15 mpg.

I just turned 21,000 miles on my 04.5 dually and the best mileage i have gotten is 14.6
(hand calc). That is 80 highway 20 city and realy lite footing it!

I put some 315 a/t tires on it at around 17,000 miles and I average about the same as
I did with the 235's. 13.5-14 mpg.

I know I won't ever see the kind of mileage the older CTD's get but I sure hope I
will eventually get better than the average I'm getting now.

Hopefully with the summer fuel and some more miles it will improve!

I'm just happy to see some other 04 owners getting the same sh**y mileage
that I'm getting.

I sold my 02 f250 PSD hoping to get a little better mileage out of the dodge.
Instead I lost about 2 mpg.
But this dodge will flat run circles around the ford!

Did you change the speedo cal when you put the bigger tires on?

Also, the increased width of your 315's will add to the rolling resistance.

when i took delivery of my 05 (with 12 miles on it) it was getting about 12.5 mpg but it has slowly crept up to 17-19 mpg on the highway (with 8200 miles on it).. running around on the back roads and on our 375 acre place it gets a rock solid 14 mpg....as mentioned in previous posts.. air pressure in the tires and driving habits play into the grand scheme of fuel economy.. i am seriously considering making my own home brew bio diesel.. it has higher cetane values than petro diesel does.. so i am thinking that my mileage my get better...i'll post with my results

Thumbs up

I was very, very disappointed with the mileage when I initially bought the truck. With just over 21k I must say I'm now happy with it. The other day we drove it up from Atlanta to Greensboro and back and got over 20 mph, w/o towing. Around town I get around 16 mph with the wife getting about 14 mph (heavy, heavy foot). Towing our 3 horse gooseneck (with horses it's around 9000#) we get around 11-12 around town and 14-15 on the highway.

Biggest secret is to let it coast....it does that well. Higher RPM's hurt it, so those with the 4.1 rear end will always suffer some.

I haven't had it reflashed, but maybe I ought to.

It truly keeps getting better. Keep your chin up.
