Re:poor mileage

Sorry for the post which was my error. ???

I cleared the fuel computer mode. I am now averaging 18.5 (not towing) on the interstate with 1000 miles which is terrific. Computer was carrying factory history. 12.5 mpg sounds like a heavy foot tester to me!

Re:poor mileage

Just filled up again today. 15200 miles on the truck.

Mixed driving (nothing really over 70mph), 590 miles on just over 30.5 Gal = 19.1 MPG (computer was reading 18.6). I put the 10000 lb 5er behind it and it drops to about 12.5 MPG.

I'm happy with it, it sure is better the my old Cheby gasser.

Sounds about right. I got 17-18 at 1000 miles. Now since I have some more mileage on it, I get around 20.

Re:poor mileage

Ouch....17 - 17.5 townish driving no load. Do not baby it and do not run the s*** out of it either.

changed exhaust...dropped to 16.2 - 16.8. That "BRRRAAAAAPPPP" at 1500 is killing me. Although, I have not made it a priority to replace it :.

Avoiding that noise caused the decrease.

FYI - where I buy fuel makes a 1 to 1.5 mpg difference also.

Re:poor mileage

Took a bunch of boy scouts on a river rafting trip with 2K miles on the clock. With 5 people inside and my bed full of gear, I got 18.6 out and 18.0 back. This was 350 miles each way, cruising 65-70 all the way.

Re:poor mileage

I JUST WENT ON A NICE LONG TRIP....truck had 1000 miles on it i was gettin about 14.7 mpg then as i was going on this trip i got 20.1 mpg @ 70 - 75 mph....had to slow down to 50 because of the cops a couple times and had to slow to about 35 because of towns...but 20.1 seems great for an auto with 4.10 ;D I LOVE THIS TRUCK

Re:poor mileage

yall need to stop complaining haha. Went to college so i lost my diesel. ( mother kept it grrrr) So im stuck with my 360 gasser in Sioux City Iowa. I thought my mileage sucked on the flats. Going up these hills. I havent filled up to check but im at 133 miles and a lil less than 1/2 a tank. im guessing 8-9 mpg so :P

Re:poor mileage

I think the dually gets poorer mileage. I traded a 03 2500 in for a 03 3500 DRW. Everything identical as far as trany, and gears. 2500 18-20 unloaded 11 pulling 12000#.
Dually with only 1500 miles gets 10 pulling and just went 1200 miles and averaged 16.5 at 70 to 80 mph. Maybe it will get better with miles?

Re:poor mileage

I've been keeping track of mine pretty closely. 3000 miles so far and the best mpg I've gotten was today...22.9 with the cruise set at 55.

Re:poor mileage

But the duals are worth the gas mileage loss when your looking at towability. The duals pull like a dream.

Re:poor mileage

Just returned from trip to Alaska towing my 5er loaded at 11,500#. We traveled 9917 miles and used 757.1 gallons of #2. That calculates to 13.1 mpg. Individual tank fills ranged from a high of 15.6 mpg to a low of 11.2 mpg. Highest mileage was from Prince George, BC to Edmonton, AB to Ft. Macleod, AB without winds or long major grades to pull. Lowest mileage was from Tok, AK to Dawson City, YK and Skagway, AK to Ft Nelson, BC where we encountered several major 9-10% grades plus head winds. I try to keep around 2000 RPM when towing. Since the AK Hwy has stretches with with major grades over 8% and two to three miles in length, an e-brake is needed for safety reasons when towing.

Re:poor mileage

That river in the foreground is Alaska's Copper River. We took 42 red salmon out of that river, fileted them and brought 5 cu ft of frozen filets home.
Back to mileage around home mostly hills and winding road my mileage is 18.6+ mpg. Freeway mileage 94.0 gal in 1934 miles equals 20.6 mpg traveling at 70-70 mph.

I now have almost 26,000 miles on the odometer in 11 month. What a money saver over the 98 gasser. Highest price paid on trip for #2 converted to US $s was Ft Nelson, BC, $2.21. Passed up a few stations which were $0.899/Litre (Loonies)

Carried an extra 15 gal container which increased supply onboard to 50 gals.

Re:poor mileage

With 30,000 km I now get the following
120 km- 15.3
110 km- 16.8
90km- 19ish, but I have to drive with slippers on.
Towing is ussually between 10 and 12.5.
Stillk no close to my 97 12 valve with the stick.
