PML or Mag-Hytek diff covers
Now that fire season is about to wrap up here in california im looking to spend some money on my truck. Im looking for a diff cover replacement so i can change the diff my self quick and easy. I refuse to pay the dealer $215 and have to kill a day waiting.
I had mag-hytek on my last truck and liked them alot but I dont tow alot just a small utility trailer with 2 quads so mabe 2000lb pounds. I dont know if i really need all the extra fluid capasity of the mag-hytek anymore.
I was reading the new diesel power and they installed the PML diff cover on their prodject 6.7 and i looked PML up www.yourcovers.com and they have a similar set up as mag-hytek with only a .75 a qt of fluid over stock which would cut down on cost at oil change time also they are $35 dollars cheaper on the actual diff cover price over mag-hytek as well.
Only prob is i dont know anything about PML covers are they any good hows the fit do they cool the diff or is it just looks etc
any input would be great
thanks
Chris

Very happy with the PML's. Have them front and rear. Excellent fit. Mine are the plain cast ones, no powder coat. Have had them on for about four years, no leaks, no complaints. I went with the plain ones because I heard they cool better.

Get one of each!
I have a PML on the front and MH on the rear. I like them both. I guess I have to say I like the quality of the MH just a little more....but MH has had some issues with fitment on the front (rubbing)...and the design looks a little funky on the front for some reason. So I went with PML there.
You can't look at both ends at the same time anyway.

I opeted for the MagHyteks, their quality is excellent. I have NO issues with them, plenty of clearance. I drive on hot surfaces all the time, the extra fluid to me IS a BIG plus, the more the better.
If I were to get a new truck, the MagHyteks would be the first thing I would install.

I have MH on both diffs and the tranny pan. I like the look and quality and have had no issues other than some leaking around the pan caused by using the wrong gasket. Putting the right one in fixed that right away.

The Dodge re-usable universal gasket is the wrong one, so are the cork gaskets used at some shops. Mag Hytec uses a fibre-type gasket, which is included in the kit or can be purchased at most tranny-supply places.

If you end up getting the upgraded steering you may have some contact with a front PML cover, I am not sure about the Mag Hytec front. No fitment issues with the stock steering. I did have to grind a couple of the fins down on my PML to avoid contact after getting the steering recall done.

Mine has an O-Ring re-usable type gasket... is this correct?
