Please help with my buddys' 06

It is hard to start, after you let the glow plugs warm you can try and start it and it will turn over and over then you let it set for a few seconds and it will fire right off. His gas milage has also dropped about 3 mpg. Secondly the dealer told him his computer was messed up but why they did not fix it blows me away, they told him at low rpm the motor drops 3 cylenders, I know the hemi does this but never heard such a thing on a deisel. I think the dealer has his thumb in well whatever, if anyone has encountered these problems please help me assist him and our local dealers.

Okay. First, he has no glow plugs.
There is a Reflash for a condition know as "long crank", might want to check and see if he has had that done yet.
There is no such thing as 3 cylinders dropping out, the dealer is confused.

If my computer was "messed up" (as diagnosed by the dealer himself) it would be parked right there unil it was no longer "messed up".

How many miles on the truck? 3 MPG is a pretty steep drop, no other perfomance boxes or programmers in use?

I agree with PJ that if I was having these problems with an 06, the truck would be parked right in front of the service bay until they fixed it. It's really not the dealer's fault that the truck is messed up but they are charged with fixing it......

He does not have any mods but I have put him in contact with lawyer friend of mine and they have also started negotiations over the lemon law act of Oklahoma, he is wanting reimbursed and will more than likely get it for this visit is the 6th time. In oklahoma the purchase price plus tag, title and tax will be reimbursed and he said he is going back to a duramax.

I don't blame him. If the local Dodge dealer is that big an <edit>, I'd go buy Chevy too.

1st, why doesnt he try another dealer? You say 6 times to try and fix the hard to start problem and he's taking it to a dealer that says the truck has glow plugs and has a 3 cylinder mode? doesnt make sense. One trip to a reputable dealer would more than likely make his truck run like it should.

2nd, You buddy doesnt realize that the lemon law isnt a overnight process and he'll have to put up with this truck for a few months if not a year, not counting all the work and pay he'll miss having to go through court processes and all the legal mumbo jumbo thats involved in this. And then more than likely, dodge will request that they want to try to fix the issue and he'll have to go to another dealer anyway, more than once!! Only to go through all of this to find out he more than likely will lose, still have the truck, that now will be running great, but he still wont be happy, sell the truck , buy a cheby, and go through this whole ordeal again, because if he thinks he's having problems now wait till hes buys a duramax .

I'm not very familiar with lemon laws in Oklahoma, but I believe in most states you have to get the truck lemon lawed in the state where you originally bought the truck.

If you haven't tried another dealer yet I would go to Bob Howard Dodge on Broadway Extension near Edmond, or Norman Chysler Jeep Dodge in Norman(I wouldn't buy from them, but their service shop is good). Just because one dealer says they can't fix it doesn't mean it can't be fixed and needs to be lemon lawed.

And, if your friend hasn't called the dealer where he bought the truck I would do that also. Have him talk to the service manager, or maybe even the owner if possible, not a service writer. Service writers in IMO usually have no idea what they are talking about.

Keep us posted.

Hit the wrong button

3rd, there is a tsb reflash for the hard to start issue, although the truck should not smoke. What color smoke?? Has you buddy changed his fuel filter? ( easy stuff first ). Any mods? Does it throw any codes? ( turn key on/off 3 times leave in on position on third time. not starting it, if it has a code it will show it in the odometer. ) How many miles on the truck?
