PCm
I'm new here, so hello everyone. I have a 2003 diesel 2500 with automatic tranny. Have had trouble shifting to overdrive and sometimes other gears. Was told problem is with the pcm and it should be replaced. Also was told only the dealer can do this as it must be programmed to my vehicle. Was told that you cannot use one from a wrecker. Would all this be true? Thanks in advance for any help you can give on this matter.

wHOOOOO... hold on their little buddy. Honestly.... I had the same issues, no OD one morning and then wondered why, then paid a bunch of cash out for diagnosists and still no solution except replace the dead PCM until my (now best friend) neighbor said, "Try cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner and see if that works."
OMG... OMFG.... it worked... and it's still working even after happening twice after that. Here's the process.... read on... don't skip the first part either...
1- disconnect the batteries and hit the brakes for a second. (dont know if you really have to hit the brakes or not but I'm not taking any chances. I already got issues)
2- Disconnect the three connectors on the pass side of the firewall. Yes, all 3.
3- Take a can of contact cleaner (not degreaser), you know... the 10 oz can you can buy at home depot?
4- Spray the connector and wiring harness end as well as good as you can, use about 1/4th of the can... Yes, a lot. Go from one to the other and back again... shake vigoursley...
5- Connect each connector to it's respective position, then disconnect it.... do this about 3-5 times.... spray with contact briefly each time they come apart.
6- The last time you spray them... shake good, blow them out with some compressed air if you can or let set long enough for the juice to completely evaporate... then reconnect and seat them good aking sure the clips engage.
7- connect the batteries again.
8- drive it and report back.
These 03' are very prone to this and there even a tech bulliten and warranty TSM (?) for them to get a late model o-ring kit installed on each of those three connectors.

read my post #5 and look at the TSM in pdf format. This should help.
good luck.
