Pathetic fuel milage question.
I have a 06 3500 mega cab deisel with 35" tires and everything else is stock. Im getting about 11 mpg in town and only 14.4 on the freeway. I don't get on it at all. the truck only has 1065 miles on it. I have a friend that has a quad cab and bought it the same week as I did and he's getting 15 and 19 before he put a superchip flashpaq in his. any suggestions or should I call dodge about this? or is this normal. I was under the impression that I should be getting better mpg. I love the truck, I'm a die-hard FORD man and went with my first Dodge cause of the motor and bigger Cab.
Thanks

Is your friend going by what the overhead says? If so, tell him to figure it by hand. My overhead is consistently over the actual MPG by 1.2-1.5. My overhead will read 18-19 and by hand I actually get 16-17. Give your truck time. Mine has almost 7k on it and my mileage is getting better the more I drive it.

They may have a reflash for poor mpg. but you have hardly even started to break it in yet. I started getting alot better on mine when i hit around 14-16 thousand miles. now i get from 12-15 town 19-21 freeway staying 65 and under. before i was getting 12 and under town, and if lucky 17 freeway. it will inprove

whats the build date on your truck? early build date has a flash update for a hard start that has been known to help with mileage 18-003-06 helped a little on mine I have 35s and they can not recal for that size but coincidently when I hand calculate my mpg countin the 9% difference for the tires it is almost exactly the same as the overhead mpg readout within 2 tenths everytime. Also drive it hard get it broke in and keep the rpms down on the freeway for peak performance 2000 seems to work for me.

I don't know about y'all's trucks but my speedometer seems to be about 3 MPH fast. That's screwin' me out of some mileage right there. And, some warranty mileage, also.

Give it some time. I got a all around average of 12.75 from the time I bought the truck new until about two weeks ago (August to Present).
I have just over 3500 miles on it and am averaging over 16 now. I expect to get another 1 - 1.5 better at around 8-10K miles.
She's got to loosen up some before you can really get an idea of what it will do.

1. Have speedometer recalibrated for the tires if you have not.
2. PUMP FRONT TIRES UP TO 80 PSI!!!! I can't stress this enough-these trucks do NOT come from the dealer with enough tire pressure for any sort of mileage. If your front tires are at the typical 50 or so psi, you may well pick up 2 mpg JUST FROM THAT. The rears aren't nearly as important unless the truck is heavily loaded a lot.
And yes, working the truck hard will break in the engine faster. You won't get better mileage while you're actually working it, but overall mileage will improve.
