to remove the pan on a 4x4, i believe that you have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the engine several inches to get the needed clearance.

I see. The punch-a-hole-in-the-side method sounds more appealing...

I could probably punch and tap 6 or more pans by the time you got the pan off of just one Cummins!!!!!!

I used the oil pan return bolt on mine and have not had anytrouble with it. The instructions state that you should use the method that is most comfortable for you. I used a center punch to punch the initial hole then let the tapered Threads of the hollow bolt expand the hole the rest of the way. I have had no issues with it leaking after 20k miles.
