Though I have never done it I would say yes it could be done but at what cost and effort and what end result would the money and effort really net?
I would rather spend the effort and money on making the Common rail system better/reliable

Isn't that kind of a step backward? I never really wanted a diesel until the common rail units came out. They were finally quiet enough to actually be desirable. Even the first gen dmax's with the two stage injectors made a heck of a racket on start up. My CRD hardly growles when started at -20 degrees Celcius. But Hey, to each their own.

Possible, yes. Feasable, no. There are CR trucks with P-pumps on them but mostly because at the time they were installed, the fueling capabilities of the stock CP3 were being met fairly quick when matched with twins and such. Since the high performance CP3's have been released, not only would it be possible to supply enough fuel but be much simpler, cheaper, and actually have it work with your computer system.

Not only that but the other pump doesn't make it that much louder except at WOT and higher RPM. The head, injectors, valve covers, lines, cam(?), and no telling what else would need changed or modified to make it work. So you figure roughly $2700 for CP3 or $1500 P-pump (if you're lucky) + work done to it, conversion kit for P-pump to 24v head $1500, lines $360, injectors $500-$1200, head $$???$$, valve cover $150, etc., etc., etc..... Possible? Yes. With enough money and time, almost anything is.

there is a guy on TDR that did it to his. He had to make a new custom front timing case and custom injection lines with 24V injectors in place of the CR injectors. With the head in stock form, the 3rd gen flows the best and I see no reason to replace it.

There is a member on here that goes by p pumped. Hes got some videos of his truck pullin, pretty impressive. I believe he also has some pics in his gallery, it looks complicated and expensive.
