Is Overdrive supposed to kick down
I have noticed a few times driving my truck that when I put the skinny pedal to the floor the tranny doesn't drop out of overdrive to assist in speeding up. Is this normal? I sometimes need that for passing or letting someone merge onto the expressway. Usually I'm going around 60-75 mph when this happens. I haven't tried it at any other speeds. Thanks.

No kick down. At 70mph your engine is turning about 2000rpm. Releasing the lockup torque converter and dropping down to third will be about a 40% increase in RPM. That's 2800rpm. That leaves only a few hundred RPM of upside potential and out of the power band of the engine.
I recommend getting a performance box. There will be no problem merging

Depends on the year and how the trans control program is setup. Generally 70 mph and above it will not drop out of OD. Under 70 mph at WOT it will unlock the converter drop out of OD and SLOW DOWN!! If you are relying on the kick down for quick passing it will not be what you expect.
