Well i guess ill chime in. I'm partial to my 06, but they're all great trucks in my opinion. My advice is test drive the one you like and decide from that. I think the third injection event started in 06 on a side note.

 

I would have to say the 07 5.9 auto other than the shorter warranty on the bumper to bumper and driveline than the 04.5 with 36/72/100K The 07 only has 36/100K and 5 instead of 7 years. Had an 04.5 and nothing but grief, injectors, fuel pump, cp-3, Rail pressure relief valve, 5 times and other assorted items leaving me stranded a few times for 2-3 days while it was repaired. Also poor mileage, but it could have been that I bought the perverbibal Lemon I guess. Traded for the same truck but an 07 and it's been great. Much nicer Tranny programing on the tow haul setting, and an additional OD off setting keeping the tow haul functions. seems much stronger than my 04.5 and definatly better seats with the stain proof covering and up to 22 mpg highway empty truck. Over all think I made the right choice to keep the Dodge and just upgrade a few years.

The very, very last of the 07 5.9's had the new G56's with the higher o/d ratio.

I liked my 06 because of the highest powered version of the 5.9, the better transmission with a button for both t/h and o/d off, and the exterior design.

 

I can't remember if it was on this forum or on the TDR forums but there was a thread which listed the code on the Tranny sticker to determine which o/d ratio it had. It had a picture of the sticker on it. I think one ended in AE but I can't remember.
Has anyone come across this thread? or know what the codes are for the two ratios?

EDIT: Never mind I found it over on the TDR forums.
"Look for this sticky label on the trans. The METAL plate doesn't say "AE". The ratio difference is early G56, 6th was .79. "AE" tranies are .74."

 

Isn't the 07 5.9 the exact same as the 06?

 

Diesel Power magazine named the 07 Dodge 2500 with the 5.9 as one of the top 10 collectible diesels of all time.

 

That would be my vote as well, 07 5.9 with the high OD g56.
Other than that, I like the headlights of the 07 more than my 06, but don't like the nipple tail lights of the 07's...

 

Thats the truth! Mopeds have better rear lighting than my 07.

 

I took care of the OD issue by installing 35" tires.

 

My '06 has been great so far, I'd have to say it's been the most trouble free vehicle I have ever owned.

 

05 is the first year for the third injection event and 05 06 and 07 all have the 325\610 and the 05 handles modds the best.

Uhh........slight correction. 04.5 started the 3rd injection....and handles mods as well as any 05-07.

Cant argue with that ^^^, the 07 5.9 has my vote, but then again Im a little biased.

 

Didn't the 03 models start the 3rd gen., or am I all wet? My 04 sure does not look like a 2nd gen. My neighbor with an 07 5.9 sure can't match my MPG numbers.
