Delvac 1300 is dino oil. Delvac 1 is the diesel-rated synthetic. Is the $57 price for the Delvac 1?

Man, I'ved used Rotella T, Rotella Syn, Delvac 1300, M1 Truck and SUV and Amsoil - I like'm all. As far as filters, have used mostly Fleetguard Stratapores, but I think I used a Wix or two along the way.

I know you didn't ask but go with a fumoto valve to make the draining much easier.

FYI, most of the PCMO Mobil 1 branded oils now contain GIII, although Delvac 1's formula appears to remain the same. It is the big buzz over at BITOG. Many now are noting that the pour point specs on many of the M1 oils has changed recently as well. Also, it is widely held that Royal Purple uses GIII.

Amsoil and Redline are 2 that use G-IV and G-V exclusively in their upper end oils. There are a lot of other boutique oils as well using true syn base oils, but these are the 2 most popular.

Even my beloved Schaeffer's 9000 is a GIII and PAO blend.

I couldn't really care less what group a certain oil is. As long as it performs on par to its price, or better, then it is good value. Even though Rotella T Syn is all GIII, it performs very comparably to a PAO based syn. This is what makes RTS and 9000 such good values at 15 bucks a gallon--just as good or better performance, across many UOA's, than PAO Delvac 1 @ 27 bucks a gallon.

Chevron Delo 400 dino oil in the Dodge. We run it in M-11 Cummins engines at 25,000-30,000 mile change intervals. Samples still come back good.

FYI, I've worked for an engine/compressor manufacturer for over 33 years, 28 of those in technical management. We work with lube oil manufacturers, reblenders and additive manufacturers to qualify lubricants for our engines and compressors. I stand by my statements.

The following is from an ExxonMobil technical forum:
Question:
Comparing Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 to Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40
How does the new Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 oil compare to Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40? Which is better for my 2003 Ford F-350 Powerstroke diesel?

Answer:
Either brand is a great choice since Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 and Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 are the same product branded differently for different markets.

Rotella T 15-40, from Sams Club. Used to be $265 for 55 gal. drum. Now $408
I bought 3 5gal. last week for $52 each. (We use alot of oil) Luberfiner or Fleetguard filters and regular, faithful changes. Interestingly, our semi engine manual (Cummins M11) says we can go 10,000 between changes, of course its 11 gal. per change, with a 2.5 quart filter.

Not to be a smart aleck but I truly believe the best oil is the one you change in a timely manner with the right grade.

Who needs oil changes, there over rated. Just fill your engine all the way to the to and JB weld the cap closed. Just think of all the money you will save in oil changes, plus you will be keeping the truck all original.

Amsoil for me.

Best advise yet.

We just never hear of engine failures due to which oil you chose. There are none that I know of. Which oil you pick is all marketing and personal preference.

Time to let yet another "oil war" thread die a slow death.

I used Mobil 1 Delvac for years (4 different trucks) then to Royal Purple and now just Premium Blue. The Dodge did not get any better mileage with the Royal Purple and using the good filters I get at the Cummins house and change every 5k I don’t really worry about it any more.
