Once again I come to dip my cup in the well of knowledge.

Hey guys I am going to be doing at least a head gasket on my brothers 04, not 04.5 2500. I need to get the torque specs for the head bolts & patter, exhaust manifold and any thing else you can think of.

Hoping this is all we have to do to this thing.
Thanks again.

Does the difference between 04 and 04.5 matter?

I'll look up the specs when I get a minute today, and post them if I have them.

BAAAAAAD news

Well the news is bad..
#6 rod bearings...

#6 Piston

Guys please make sure you don't do this rookie mistake, ALWAYS check for the old gasket from your old oil filter.

He only drove for about 8 miles, still had oil pressure, heard a bad knock and shut it down.
Luckily a local diesel shop is able to sleeve the block just a little over $1500 so far. Going to get it back together this Sat.
Better than having to get a new engine.

Wouldn't there have been oil leaking all over the place when he started it?

No he checked "real quick" , shut the hood and left... you can still see the oil trail out the driveway and down the road. He got in a hurry... This is why I always start the engine and check the filter and plug. Just something I learned from working at a qwick lube as a kid.

I have done the same thing, but I caught it early, shut it down and fixed it. Learned my lesson, just not as hard as him.

My son, just into this vehicle thing, did the same a few months ago. He saw the oil trail as he backed out of the garage and thankfully no damage done. He's pretty diligent now on that one. Glad he learned the "easy" way.

Condolences on your recent loss.
