OK so whats it coming with, 47 or 48
Hi everyone! Happy to be here. I have a 2004 3500 quad cab DRW 2x4 truck coming in to my local dealer on an dealer trade.
And the salesmen doesn't know what auto trans I'm getting with this thing. I'm getting a 555 that I think was made in nov of 03. I'm basing this on the fact that the dealer took delevery on 12/20/03. I thought all 555s came with 47s, but as I do further reading of forums I see peoples bios with 2004s with HO 555s and 48s. What was the change over date for this? And if it's got a 48 does this truck have a true 555 TQ or the 4?? TQ engine?
Thanks
Kenny

I don't think Dodge made any HOs w/ the 47RE. That's why for the first few years of the HO you could only buy one w/ the manual trans. The 47RE couldn't handle the power reliably...

OK this is starting to make sence to me why I see the bios as such.
Then i also take it that it's a true 555TQ engine. I'm kind of embarrassed to be asking this, because I'm a municipal heavy equip mechanic by trade. But I work on packers mostly and they have cat 3208s/3306s and cummins L 10/isc L10s. With Allison autos. Well I can blame it on the city, they don't want to bay for extra training for us! Budget cuts and such.
Thanks all
Kenny.

The engine data sheet is located on the right side of the valve cover as you're facing the engine. The glove compartment has a label with specifics about rear-end ratio and also the trans I believe. What I would do is ask the dealer to pull up the vehicle build sheet by using the VIN. That has everything. Nat

If it is the SO it is likely a 47RE.
