OK Another Question about Toyo open country A/T tires

OK guys i hope this is the last darn question i will have to post about tires. Sorry for bothering everybody about all my tire questions. OK I decided to go with the Toyo open country A/t tires size 285/75/17 load range E. OK i though i had a set ordered but when i got home from work. there was a message on my answering machine saying that the 285/75/17 were non available.but i could still get them in a 285/70/17 load range E tire.even the place i got my coopers from said he was not for sure if he could get me the 285/75/17 tires. but if he could it would be over a week before they would come in. so i was checking tire places on the INTERNET and i found a couple of places that showed them. but they all talked about special ordering etc. So are these 285/75/17 a new tire that just came out or what, has anybody Else had a hard time trying to get a set. last thing I can get the 285/70/17 tires by this Thursday and i would really like not to have to Waite another week waiting for tires.

so my question is if you had a choice would you get the 285/70/17 toyo or Waite for the 285/75/17 tires to come out? i mean will i loose anything from running the 70 series compared to the 75 series. Man i can not believe how freaking hard it is trying to pix which tires to run on your truck.thanks for any help you can give to somebody that is about to pull his hair out. Thanks Bobby

285/70R-17 E range is the correct size for your and my truck (see sig)...
Why are you going to a tall tires 70% aspect vs 75% aspect? Just wondering.....

hi for some reasion the 75 aspect ratio one has allmost a 4000 pound load rateing.i think the 70 one is 36-3700 pound load range. I figure if i was buying new tires i would buy the best ones i could. but if the 75 series are going to be to hard to get i will just get the 70 series ones. I really need my truck going. but thanks for the help.Mopar72

I don't think you can go wrong with either size. 75 series just being roughly 1" larger in diameter than the 70 series.
If your heart is really set for the 75 series I say wait the extra week.

I'm running the "70" series Toyo AT and my friend's got the "75's" Minimal appearance diffference and similiar weight ratings. The 75's are scarce and the 70's are readily available.

I had to wait for mine to come in too-the local dealer had 4 on hand, and had to get 3 more (dually+spare) shipped in from out of town. It actually took longer than he said it would, and I had to somewhere else to get them mounted, but I am glad I waited.

I am running the 285/75/17 E Toyo ATs on mine. Some tire stores don't know they exist.

This tire is fairly new. It is much stiffer in the sidewall than the E rated 70 series. When I got mine we got out a 70 and a 75 and put them next to each other to compare. The 75 is about an inch taller and the tread is about 5/8 inch narrower, but the BIG difference is the sidewall. I could flex the 70 sidewall with my thumb and push it way in but the 75 was VERY stiff and hard. Both were load range E. The 75 has a three ply sidewall too.

He told me these tires are the same carcass as the MT series and that they never see any with a punctured sidewall.

On the road the 75s seem very round and smooth riding. My mileage is actually up from the 285/70 BFGs I had before.

I just went through the mountains last weekend. It was snowing hard, the road was frozen and white. No problems and felt like the BFGs did as far as traction.

They are rated for 3970 lbs

So, I'm sold. These are the best tires I've ever had. And they fit perfectly on H2 wheels. With the 3.73 gears and a 48 RE I'm running 1500 RPM at 60 and 2000 RPM at 80.

I'm running the 70 series and although I'd prefer the 75's,I can state that @65psi these tires exhibit zero sidewall flex or tailwagging with my 2000# camper on all the time. I am going with Mt's next though. Interesting finding on the sidewall stiffness differences though.

the only problem with a tire that needs to be special ordered is if you need a replacement because of defect or damage you're kinda screwed.
