Is the smell you are talking about smell like dirty feet or unwashed armpits? I get a smell like that usually on the way home after getting off the highway. I have tried everything to locate it. Maybe I should be change the brand of oil?

The oil smell comes from the crank case vent that just so happens to vent along the driverside of the block! Will be looking into how to re-route it another place!

Well Mark, I don't mind it either but, when I have the heat on due to it being 2 degrees out and all I smell is oil burning my eyes it gets old quick! LOL I've been driving truck for 12 years and I can do without oil smells sometimes!

I get no smell if I switch the ac or heat to recirculate while sitting at traffic lights or stop/go traffic.

Talking

I use the Delo 400 15w/40 and have noticed a slight oil smell to it at every oil change interval for a few miles. Have not really heard anyone comment on it before smelling or stinking, maybe my sniffer is to sensitive.

No trying to be a poet but the "stink is zinc". Want good oil with excellent antiwear properties, you get stink. Smell any gearlube lately? Tons of zinc in that stuff.

I have never in my life found a group of more sensitive men!

Maybe you should all go out and buy a subaru baja truck... car... CRUCK. whatever.
jk.

Actually, I am with you! I have two identical trucks and both get rotella, one stinks so bad all the time, you get within 10 feet and you can smell it, I just want to know why one does it and the other only does it after the oil change. The stinky one also blows blue smoke taking off from idle like in the morning and at stop lights.

Blowby, dude - the truck with less blowby will odorize less - I like that odor - indicates high zddp content , which is hi-pressure lubricant for camshafts, lifters, rocker arms, timing gears, piston skirts, etc - Rotella CH had gobs of it, thus the 'body' odor - the CJ blends have reduced sulphur - the thio in zddp is sulphur, so you get less of it in order to protect the emissions systems on the '07 trucks

I just switch to esso 0w40 for the winter and its been week and I couldn't figure out why I could smell oil burning when the vehicle came to any idle and now I know. Thanks for the info I just bought the truck in late july. I traded my F150 supercrew 4x4 for a new 2007 5.9 QC 4x4.
awsome site for a newbie.
