oil smell/loosing oil
#31
When I told the dealer that I would fix it myself all of a sudden they can clean it. To make me feel better they gave me a '10 2500 to drive. Its pretty nice until you look and see avg mpg 13.9. Can you say "Hemi"?. I can't. Anyway, my truck should be ready first part of this week. Cross your fingers.

Round 2 starts...got my truck back and only had to pay deductible for aftermarket waranty and labor for cleaning intercooler. Checked the oil day or 2 later it was down a little. I drove back an forth to work last week everything seemed fine. This weekend I hauled a load of horses about 300 mi, half way through the trip I had to add about 1 1/2 qt of oil, noticed alot of smoke smell when I stopped. This morning I noticed a hiss/squel noise on the driver's side of the engine. I let it cool down and went out to check the oil and I notice a spot of fresh oil on the ground. I have oil coming from somewhere on the back side of the engine and it is running down the side of the bell housing. I called the dealer already since they told me "everything else is fine" when I left. I'm not looking forward to putting the truck back in the shop

Buudy of mine just got through rebuilding his motor on his 03',,,, said the wife was driving it a while back and had a loss of power, I think he said, she kept driving it, turned out the turbo went out, so he put another turbo on, but when he cranked it up, had some rods (3) knocking.
When she kept driving it turned out the turbo was pumping/burning the oil out and it turned out he was about 2 gallons low ,,,, new crank, bearings and pistons, he's about to crank it up soon.
Oh, he had about 250,000 on the clock when this happened.

No loss of power, no knocking. dealer said they did a compression test and everything was ok. 2 days ago I pulled a 20' steel stock trailer loaded with 5 horses and 4 passengers with me(gross about 18-19K) . I was running 65-75 mph through rolling hills and barely had my foot on the gas. this truck runs good if I could keep the oil in.

I am going nuts about this. After a compression test, which I was told was done the 1st time and actually wasn't, #1 and #6 cylinders were bad. They pulled the head micked the cylinders and determined they were not machinable so I'm getting a new short block. I had to go back and dig out all my old receipts to prove that I Its not very fun to make 2 payments on something that I don't get to use In the meantime my father-in-law's 05 quit starting he took it to a different dealer they put a new injector in and it starts but runs bad. They put the old injector in and it barely starts but runs good. They are trying to claim he had contaminated fuel so they don't have to pay to change all 6 injectors. Long story short I have just about had it with Dodge dealers and their products. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that it would take as much effort on my part to get something fixed. I don't know how someone can run a business and not give much care and consideration to those who pay their salaries. Between my wife and I we have bought 4 trucks from this dealer in the past and they have been good to us but as soon as this is over I will never set foot back on their lot.

The above problems about oil changes is why I pay the local Toyota dealer $12.88 to install my oil and filters that way I have proof, paper trail of when the oil was changes. I also took oil samples and have the reports for all oil changes if they were to ever question me about going a bit over OCI miles or time..

Does any body have a Cummins Truck shop in their area? These guys can fix this truck. They support all of the Cummins products and know their way around this engine. ALL of the Dodge dealers are ill equipped to handle any problem that does not throw a code or require a sensor to fix the problem.

The final chapter...The great almighty Chrysler rep determined the engine is dusted, no warranty. After whining and fighting and complaining they offered a 50-50 deal still costs me over 4k, no can do at my house. Dealer put it back together no charge after I complained more. I found someone who wants to buy it as is and I hate to say this on here but I'm going to go buy a chevy gasser. Don't worry the wife will still be driving the megacab.
