Oil Question: new Amsoil

Since I can no longer find any CI 4 plus oil locally. I am considering a change over to the new Amsoil Synthetic Heavy-Duty Diesel & Marine Motor Oil SAE 15W-40 (AME). Which is a CI-4 plus oil designed for 07 and down engines. Just wanting to see what you all think about it. I have been running rotella t up until the change over of oil, then the Valvoline Blue CI 4 plus until I couldn't find it any longer. Thanks for the input. Tac

I just saw an ad for Amsoil in Diesel Power, it was CJ4 too. Do they still make both CI, and CJ?

Amsoil just came out with 5w40 and 15w40 under the specs you are looking for 2007 and later just for you. I was running rotella and then a buddy of mine convinced me to run the amsoil 15w40 and its a difference mileage is better and cold starts are easier...and if you really want to see a change, get the diffs and trans fluid switched to amsoil. sorry didnt see the year but the 15w40 diesel marine is what use in my 04.5 api cj4 is the new one for 07 and later .

Does anyone know what the CI and the CJ ratings mean anyway!
Arent they for emisions quality or something?

Thats my question, What are they and does it really matter if you dont use that rated oil?

Mine is an 05, so I want the CI plus which is what this is. In a test several years ago that was printed in Turbodieselregisty, the new CJ4 oils performed horrible in comparison. That is why I'm wanting to continue with CJ4 oils. I've been running amsoil in the tranny/transfer/diffs for years. Glad to see someone is already running this. Hope some more people chime in. My buddy who hasn't seen the light yet, has a 6.0 ford, and wants to switch oil as well, and was wondering if I had heard anything negative about this oil. Tac

cool but what is the difference b/n CI rated and regular synthetics. I know
people who use the zero weight amsoil in their trucks but i dont think its CI rated. could that cause a problem?

Go to autozone and look for Valvoline All Fleet Plus 15w40. Its great oil and CI4+ on the label. 3.99 a quart.

They make both. They have no current plans to discontinue the CI-4+ oil.

I looked around for quite some time for a CI oil.. with no luck in my area. I am using Amsoil 15/40 marine.

Valvoline specs on the All Fleet Plus is both CJ and CI.. If its compatible with Particulate filters it will not have the detergents that the previous CI oils had. Most manufacturers are showing CI and CJ on the labels to try and keep the CI users happy.

Still no one has the info on what the CI and CJ represents. If you really want the valvoline stuff all you need to do is call a Cummins dealer they will have or direct you to where to order.

I'm thinking the Valvoline Blue was a complete change. The new CJ 4 oil had the same stock numbers and such as the old CI4 PLus. The label changed color too, but the numbers were the same. I had found two gallons of the old in the back of the new stuff. I compared both labels. So I don't know if you could even order it.

I know this, I read that before buying it. The API label on the can says CI4+, not CJ4 like all other oils?

It says its compatable with CJ4 oils.

CJ4 oil has better soot control over CI oils. The new 6.7 egr engine creates much more soot in the oil versus non egr engines. (5.9)

So as far as soot control, CJ4 is much better oil. I know the additive package is fewer in mineral content in CJ versus CI..

Valvoline All Fleet Plus has very good soot control which makes it compatable with CJ4 oil..

OK, I have a quart of Valvoline all fleet plus in my hand... The label says CI4+...

So whats the deal? I think its CI4+ oil that is also compatable with CJ4 oil, not vice versa like all other oil..

Want to add that John Deere +50 15/40 is a CI4+ oil and can readily be found just about anywhere. Thats what I run in all my 5.9's. Should be able to find that in TN easily
