Oil not draining back into oil pan?????
Wifes, truck.
2003, 1500 4x4 with the 5.7L hemi.
No oil on dipstick. Went to add oil and its about to over flow with oil from the fill tube. What is going on?
Anyone ever seen or hear of this??
Currently wife is home by herself and I'm stuck in Fort Irwin CA.
Thanks for the help.

Engine is all sludged up not allowing oil to drain back to oil pan. How many miles on truck? When did you have oil changed last? 2003 had 7 years 70K mile warranty if you took that option when you bought your truck other then the $5,000 rebate. Not saying it would be covered, you would have to show receipts for oil changes if engine is completely sludged up, would be from lack of maintenace.

That would have to be a super ridiculously, unbelievably poorly maintained truck to have it so sludged up that the oil does not drain back into the pan. In fact, I don't think it's possible. I've seen them so sludged up that oil cannot get to the engine but not the other way around....

I personally know someone who treated their car so bad, that this really does happen. He did it when he was in college so we just wrote it of as a poor college student. he would actually do oil changes for friends and relatives to get their used oil and would dump it into his motor. His oil light stayed on so long, he actually took the dash apart and removed it. The rods never once knocked. Rocker arms ticked alot though. When he finally got a real job, we rebuild that motor and it was fine. The crank and cam and lifters, push rods and rocker arms had to be replaced, but the pistons looked good and the cylinders honed out ok. So yes, this can happen. I've have seen it.
In this case, I would vote for whoever is checking is using the wrong dipstick. (no pun intended).
If it had no oil, she would know it when it started up just by the sound.

I serviced a van with 30,000 miles, customer said she never changed oil just added to it when low. The oil came out like tar in clumps. Engine ran for a few more miles and started knocking. Service manager covered the engine under warranty.

Maybe she could get that cute pool boy from next door to come over and show her which dip stick to use.....
I mean, as long as her man is gone..... And she has nobody to check her oil....
Besides, how many women EVER check the oil? She's a keeper!!!

finally back home, thank god.
Engine oil was definitely low. She was trying to add oil to the power steering. I had just returned from being deployed in Afghanistan and then had to go to Fort Irwin and had not had the time to service the truck. I had serviced the truck when I was home on R&R in March of 09. She had never taken the truck in while I was gone. Now I have to drain and flush the power steering system besides service the engine. I had even showed her where to add oil when we first got the truck. She said she forgot. Well at least she was checking, just didn't know which hole to put it in.
