Oil leaking at crankcase filter

When should the crankcase filter be changed or does it have to be? It just started to leak around where the filter slips down into the valve cover. Maybe it's just the o-ring? Any help?

Anyone else ever have this problem? I don't want to spend money on the breather if I don't need it.

Yeap, I have it. I clean it from time to time. Never got around to really dealing with it. Mine leaks from the little rubber boots. You have to buy the whole line to just get the boot so it has never gotten bad enough for me to deal with it....LOL
