Oil Leak....
Hey guys, Long time reader but have only posted a few times.
I have a 2006 2500 5.9L HD 4X4 140,400 miles.
I noticed oil spots on the back of my truck after driving from Colorado to Texas a few weeks ago. After parking the truck in the drive way I found the oil was leaking from the blow by tube on the driver side beside the oil pan. I took it to the dealer and they told me my rings needed replaced... Is this true? I'm having to keep an eye on the oil level. After starting the truck it smokes white until I get it up to about 30mph. Is this oil leaking while the truck is parked causing this smoke? I have a few more problems also but think I have found how to fix them from reading on here. Thanks for reading any help is great.....

140,000 miles should be nothing for a Cummins Engine. There have been so many stories like yours on this forum.
If you do have to tear down, please come back to the forum and post here what you found or they found with the tear down. Important for all of us that have not got that far in mileage.
I think I'm going to get me a 12V and put it in storage for later on. I don't think I'll rebuild what I have if I suffer this concequence of just driving the truck.
My son and I have put on over 500,000 miles on a 96 and 2000 Cummins Dodge Trucks and never had a problem with nothing but brakes, and other wear out stuff. Never blowbye and all the stuff I'm seeing here for the 3rd Gen's 2003 and up 5.9's. Oils is clean to 4500 miles.
If carbon fouling on the rings is the problem from the 3rd event on the later trucks, Cummins should step up. Its a design flaw in my opinion.

Oil is good, but only becuse I'm having to check it daily. Oil seems to leak while driving and while sitting in the driveway. Just a few drips while sitting in the driveway but enough over a few days to have to add more.

That's what I was thinking....I don't belive oil dripping while I'm driving and and it getting all over the bottom of my truck and the back in normal by any means. Guess I'll just suck it up and drop it at a shop soon.

I'm still really glad my blowby tube doesn't have any 'normal' oil leaks!
