Oil change issues
#17
trying to keep this question in an appropriate thread instead of a new one and found thread this while searching for the answer to my question ...
I changed the oil in the ram today. I didn't prefill the new filter before installing it. In retrospect I wish maybe I had. I've only idled it since then to circulate new oil and then check levels. Maybe 20 seconds or so. Would that be enough to fill it? I watched the pressure, and it never dipped to zero briefly like it does on my old mercedes diesel after a change.
Another question, I feel like an idiot but I can't tell for sure from the dipstick what level its at. Never had trouble on my 12 valve. Oil seems to be smeared all over the dipstick. At worst, I overfilled it slightly. Maybe the filter isn't full yet. I'll check it in the morning again.

Need to let it idle more than 20sec. Let it idle for at least a minute or 2, wait 15 min and then check. The oil pressure gauge is fake, nothing more than an idiot light. It will only let you know when you have less than 5psi of pressure or so.The output displayed on the dash is pre-programmed into the ECM.
