I own a few dodges and the oil change intervals are different. My 03 is every 3750 miles according to my maintenance logbook. My 05 only requires an oil change every 7500 miles. Both trucks are on maintenance schedule B.What's the deal?

 

Your '03 model had the California emissions (EGR) which tends to be pretty hard on the oil. The '04.5 and later just have cats.

My book for my '05 says 3750 and 7500 for A and B. I will be going with the 7500 after my 3rd oil change.

 

4x4 not read your book closer...particularly the symbols... your schedule should be 7500/15000.

The CA 03's didn't have EGR as far as I know, I believe they just had a cat.

 

I have an 04 book (references 305/555 engine) with my 04.5. Mine also says 3750mi/7500mi as the intervals. I have been changing on a 5k interval anyway. But, I would like to get a book for the 325/600 model that I own. Anyone know if DC will give me one? If so, where can I get it?

I would hope that the dealer would give you one if requested, especially the dealer you bought your truck from.

 

When I talk to my dealer they insist on oil changes every 3000 miles. I guess the service department don't have anything to do.

 

The early 2004.5s (like mine) came with the older manuals showing the previous 3000/7500 mile oil change. I split the difference and change at 6000. I change fuel filters at 10,000.

 

Except take your money.

 

I wonder what they'd say if you were getting the free oil changes some dealers offer?

 

When I show the service guys the service log books they repeated over and over again 3000k as if they programmed to say that. Then I ask about synthetic they recomended mobile-1 and said I could get 6000k on it, But if I switch I coundn't go back to standed motor oil.

 

My maintenance guide that came with my truck states 6000km (3750mile)/12000km(7500mile) service interval as well? I have followed that but I agree it is confusing hearing how some say that it is much higher. Likewise the dealers also mail me out service reminders at 5000km(3000mile) intervals?...yeah right! I don't know if I would want to go 24000km (15000miles) on a single oil change but I guess if the oil samples were coming back ok then maybe. I admit the price of 3 4L jugs of oil it would be dollar wise better to go with higher numbers but I wouldn't want to chance voiding any potential warranty issue if there was ever an engine problem down the road. I already pay roughly $75 per oil change doing it myself using Esso XD3 synthetic and if I used Mobil 1 Delvac it would be roughly $140 per oil change doing it myself. Oh and Levi...you can switch back to non-synthetic anytime you want, you can even add non-synthetic to synthetic as top up if you needed to as long as it was the same API rating (although personally I would only do this in pinch).

 

How closely are you guys reading your owner's manual? The only trucks that ever had 3750/7500 were trucks with the special california emissions package as far as I know. If you look VERY closely at your manual, you'll see a little symbol next to the numbers....make sure you're not reading the cali symboled section of the chart

 

Trust me, I've looked VERY closely, in fact there aren't even any symbols or footnotes on mine indicating any California emmisions (maybe it's Canada thing) I can even scan and send the page right out of my owners manual if people wish. But there is NO higher interval at all in my owners manual other than 6000km for schedule 'B' and it doesn't even list schedule 'A' for Canadian climates. There is also a separate maintenance book that has tear off pages that dealership keeps the tear off (if you actaully go to the dealer for service) and it is only in 6000km service intervals with no option for longer periods as well, and the separate owners book in the glove box as well has the maintenance interval chart that again does not give an option of anything more than 6000km (3750miles). I only wish that I could go longer and not risk having warranty issues down the road if something happened to grenade and the dealer said, "When was the last time you changed your oil sir? Well that is not what Dodge recommends as an interval in your owners manual so no warranty." And this can happen (maybe not the engine failure part as easily but it could also) as I have been on the dealership end (Not a Dodge dealer) of refused warranty claims for customers not changing their oil for 65,000-75,000km and seizing a motor and wondering why we aren't warranting it. I know an extra 6,000 to 8,000km is no big deal but it would be if they tried to deny warranty for a fluke warranty engine grenading. I also know Cummins has the higher recommedations for oil change intervals however Cummins isn't warranting the engines...it is Dodge, and we all know how picky they can be at times of major warranty.
