Oil Change Help

If you let the pan drain completely before you remove the filter, you will notice the oil filter is only about 3/4 full when you remove it. This means no spills. If you remove or crack the filter first, it is full of oil and will spill more easily. Draining the oil pan has a vacuum effect on the oil in the filter. I use a cap filter wrench with socket and long extension. If I do as stated above, I can change the oil filter from underneath without spilling oil.

I have never removed the intake tube to change the oil. I have done the ziplock bag thing, and it is a PIA. To me, the problem is that you need to get rid of that oil that is still in the filter. If it is in the ziplock, then it is still a mess.

I used to take a 1 quart plastic pop bottle with the top cut out and slip that over the filter and and unscrew it, any oil will go into the bottle, (better idea than a bag) but now I just unscrew it without a problem.

I don't trust those little valve hooties people replace the drain bolt with either, last thing I'd want is for one of them to screw up.

I'm going to have to try that. For years I have been either punching a hole in the bottom of the filter to drain the oil out, or doing the plastic bag thing.
