Oil Change

Oil Change
Changed my oil yesterday, engine miles 2650, wanted to see if any metal was present since its a new engine, just wanted to be cautious, no metal. I also changed the oil filter and filled it back up with Delco 400. Drove 30 miles round trip to go feed my stock today and my milage dropped from 15.7-17.1mpg to 15.1-15.4 mpg. Any ideas out thier what might have happended.
Thanks

Nope, but the drop in mileage had nothing to do with the new oil - thats for sure.
Just keep driving it and break it in. Your truck is brand new; you'll see mileage go up and down depending on fuel, load and lead in your right foot.

Wild Ram,
There is nothing wrong with your truck, and it has nothing to do with your oil change. It sounds as though you are using the overhead console to determine mileage, which is okay. There can be many factors to determine your mileage. One of them can be head/tailwinds, temperature, and humidity. Did you have a load one-way and not the next. ( I'm assuming you didn't). Also, 15 miles each way, 30 miles round trip, is not eneogh mileage to determine a long term average with the overhead computer. To get a true reading I would suggest you figure your mileage the old fashion way using the trip odometer and gallons used over a longer period of time. Also, revisit the owners manual and look up "overhead console", It will give you a better insight on how the computer works for mileage.

Your right Alan, I depend to much on the over head computer to give me my mileage per gal. I'll start useing gal. and miles driven and see what differance I come up with. Thanks for your input.

Idling kills my mileage! I have been keeping track of my mileage on a sort of spreadsheet. Speeds over 65 loses mileage. Prolonged idling loses mileage. Windy conditions lose. Towing drops it. Short shift, egg on pedal, under 65/1900rpm, and using same fuel from high volumn truck stop nets me around 19mpg average.

if you add too much oil wouldn't that increase the amount of fuel you need? because the engine has to work against the oil? or if you use heavier engine oil it could also be a reason that your fuel milage gets worse.
