Oil Change

At what mileage did you guys change out the original oil in the motor? I have roughly 5000 miles and think I am going to change it at 6000. After that I'm going to go 7500 miles between changes like I have on every other Cummins that I've had. Thanks in advance.

i changed mine at 500 miles to get all the wear in metals and Silicone out. Also, if you have to run the new CJ oils in it, you might want to change it at 5,000 instead of 7500. JMHO

First one was around 4,500 and I let the dealer do it - from what I have read it was a good decision. Oil filter is a pain sometimes the first change. My second I did roughly 7,500 later and my oil analysis came back saying I should try and extend to 8,500 - 9,000 before my next change.

7,000 then 15,000 then 23,000 and every 9,000 since. I only tow with it 20% of the time. I don't leave it idling needlessly and I don't have it hopped up. I had sampling done each of the original times.

I did mine at 3612 and plan on doing it now at 7500 intervals so next one is at 10000 trying to make it easier to keep track of buy looking at the od.

I changed mine @ approx. 2500 miles then again @ 5000 miles. I plan on doing 5000 mile oil changes using Delo 15w-40 oil.

I changed my oil at about the same when I first bought the truck- I also agree with the 5000 even with CI4+ oils. At least for me it has proven to be a good interval number.

Every 5K for me. Easy round number to remember.

10K for Fuel Filter. 20K for Trans fluid/filter, diff fluid, etc.

I changed mine at 5000, then every 7500 after. First one also done by the dealer, the rest done at a local shop.

I changed mine at 1050 mile as I found out 2 weeks after I bought it that the oil had been in it for almost 9 months. I think everyone should check to see how old the oil is not just the amount of miles on it.

I just changed my oil again as it had 7K on it and Dodge said that the oil has to be changed every 6 months or 7500 miles, mine had been in for over 7 months. I was told even though it was synthetic it had to be changed out at 7500 miles as over the summer we had temps over 90 degrees and that means it was operated under sever conditions.

I did a UOA because I wanted to know for sure how well the oil was doing. The dealership even said all engines are operated under sever conditions as listed in the owners manual. Well when the UOA came back I found out that I still had a TBN of 10.03, so I had thrown out darn good oil because of what I was told by Dodge.

I think everyone should be doing UOA to see how well there oil hold up and how long it will last so as to not be throwing out good oil and wasting their hard earned $$$. If you do an UOA there is no more guessing of how well your oil is holding up.
