HOAT is Hybrid Organic Acid Technology Coolant. It is a combination of Organic Acid and Silicon additives. In plain English it allows the coolant to maintain it's additives longer without breaking down. This allows you to go 100,000 miles or 5 years between coolant exchanges. There are a few brands that are HOAT. Zerex GO-5 is one.

If you won't see temps below 0 F, you can just run the 15w40, I like the Shell Rotella. If you prefer or need a lighter oil, I run 5w40 Rotella synthetic or the Mobil Delvac 1. If you use the synt Rotella, just make sure it is the CI rated because there is still a lot of the older CH on the shelves.

PSAJB - have you started the engine? Did you put the drain plug back in? If you poured 12 quarts in, it should be full, slightly overfilled in my experience.
Jughed440 - I like how you apologize for clearly hijacking the post, and then continue on. LOL is it that hard to do a search or make your own post? There have been about 80000 posts about oil and people asking the exact question you did. Jkitterman is right about synthetics flowing better at cold temps, however you start losing flow performance with dino oils like rotella well above 0F. I'd say the cut off should be anything below 35F. I know for a fact below 10F that 15w40 synthetic oils start thickening compared to 5w's and 0w's...
