Oil?

What is the downside of going from synthetic oil to reg oil? I heard once you go synthetic you can not go back. Is this true?

Thanks

Oh jeez Hoss, now we know why the price of diesel fuel is going thru the roof! I'm sure you burn a lot of oil hauling all that concrete around

Ok

I was thinking of doing the same thing Hoss. Thats why I was asking. I dont want to spend that kind of money again and I have been hearing dino is much improved.

Yep. Thanks to you I finally started using synthetics. But, the last time I was in line at Walmart to pay for my oil I decided that I just didn't like paying $60 for oil so I put it back on the shelf and went back to my trusty 1300 Super for $18.

Let's not be silly. Dino oil clearly cokes more easily/at a lower temp on the turbo, causes more deposits, additive package depletes faster, and clearly does not flow as well in cold winter temps..

I think the more appropriate question is what is the UPSIDE of dino oil - and that is simple - it's cheap.

Well Hoss, for some price is king...if you are dumping synthetic oil at the same interval as you're dumping dino, it certainly isn't helping you out in an immediate sense cost wise.. Whatever makes you happy!

Which I was. I was changing it every 7500 miles even though it was synthetic. I figured if I wasn't going to run extended intervals I might as well just get the dino juice. But, who knows....I'm known to change my mind quite frequently so I may end up going back to synthetics next time.

i was more or less refering to the "I heard once you go synthetic you can not go back." part...
i personally see no reason to not run synthetics in our sumps with rather small capacity [compared to larger engines] i also see no reason why all synthetic oils are not a wider band rated [ie, 0w50] with all the modern engineering of lube oils, they could easially do that, but so many are scared to run anything but 15w40...
[i guess they are thinking anything less that 15w is going to damage their engine. my pressures with 0w40 are the same/similar as 15w40 at operating tempratures, but my 0w40 flows better cold than the 15w40 does..]

I guess I missed what you meant...in any case I agree - there is no penalty for switching back to dino.
