Offroad diesel and warrantee question.

Will offroad diesel void my warrantee. Stupid question, but I don't want to run into any problems.

I know a "person" who ran it in their new duallie and they took it into the dealership for some work. The manager asked this person if he was running off-road fuel in the truck, which he was. They told this person that it would void the entire warrantee on the truck if they did that again They told this person that it would take 20000 miles of running regular diesel thru to get the dye coloring out of the system. They said if cummins found any indication of dye in the system when doing warrantee work that they would void the entire warranty, even though its the same as on-road diesel, just has red dye in it. Everybody runs it around here, just dont let the law or the dealership catch you There are some stiff fines for burning off-road if you get caught with it.

Seems to me, I heard that 1 gallon of off road diesel can "stain" up to 1000 gallons of regular diesel! I also heard that the initial fine is 10,000 bucks with another 1k$ for every gallon in your tank. I could be wrong.......

Thanks, I'm going to have to read back through to see if there is any loop holes I can make it through so it won't void my warranttee.

I'm sure if you asked a service manager if running an aftermarket airfilter would void it he'd say it would.

When they replace a part for warranty like CP3 and a few others on the list they have to keep the part in the shop for 3-4 weeks in case Dodge request it be sent to them to look over and if it has any trace of dyed fuel in it Dodge will charge the cost of the part back to the dealership. As I heard one SM say that in farming areas its hard to tell a farmer he can't pull up to his pump and add fuel to his truck of its low on fuel and he needs to get to town to buy a part for his tractor during planting or harvest season. Also if they see dyed fuel they are told they should also call the state tax people but if they did this to every farmer that did this they would be out of business in short order so in some small towns it maybe over looked at the dealership when its a farmers truck. In farm country you don't bit the hand that feed you.

Hmmm... what if a person should be using his truck for purely "farm use" which it doesn't really touch the pavement often?? Is it still illegal to use farm diesel?

Its illegal to run in anything that is licensed for on-road use. Around here everyone farms so pretty much everybody runs it though. It's stupid to leave the field and run all the way to town to put diesel in a truck when there is a pump right there at the farm with diesel in it.

Just a thought, but a friend of mine got stopped and they tested his fuel and found it dyed. All he did was tell them that he adds a liter of ATF to each tank when he fills up, and that that was what they were seeing. Got off no problem.

I was told once by a fuel engineer that the diesel is not actually dyed but that it is very very small pieces of plastic material and it is so fine that it looks like a dye would. If that was the case, I would think there would be a way to filter out the "Dye", however if actually a liquid dye I would think you would be out of luck.
