Odd piece attached to fuel filter
Hi guys,
I just purchased this truck about a month ago, I went to change the fuel filter yesterday and it looked a bit different than what I have seen in manuals and write ups. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on why this unit is different on the top. I attached a picture for you to see, but I didn't have ladder with me so it is at sort of a bad angle. It seems to be tapped in on the top of the cap.
I've been doing some reading about a socket that everyone seems to use, but with this additional valve thing on the top that probably won't work. I assume a end wrench of some sort would make it work? I do see the nut that is supposed to be removed under this piece, whatever it may be.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick replies folks. I do not have a fuel pressure gauge in the truck at the moment. Maybe there was one in there before, the previous owner left the EGT, Boot and trans gauges.
Thanks once again.
Thanks once again.

The tag on the side shows that to be a 16psi fuel pressure sender. You can trace the wires to see where they go. The PO may have had a fuel pressure gauge as well, but removed it for some reason.
One other piece of advice on the fuel pressure gauge. It would be best if you remote mounted that sender instead of having it threaded into the fuel filter directly. If you remote mount the sender and connect it to the filter housing with a length of rubber hose, it helps isolate the sender from the vibrations it experiences right now being directly mounted to the engine. Plus, the rubber hose helps dampen any pulses from the injection pump.

That isolator is a good idea too. I'm on my second sender and it was acting weird for about a week here recently but finally is back to normal. I still haven't learned my lesson and gotten the isolator kit yet.....
