Odd noise (updated)

Here's an odd one for me...

Occasionally my truck will sound like a huge fan is running under the hood along with the RPM's. It rarely happens though, and normally when it is colder out and I'm just starting to drive for the day. When I hit 4th the noise stops and normally does not return until the next random time it does that. Even if I stop immediately after hitting 4th, the noise does not happen in the first few gears again. This only happens once a week or so.

I'm sure this is nothing to worry about, but I haven't a clue what it might be, besides the engine fan, but why would that kick on and go up as the RPMs went up when it's COLD...

Thanks.

Yeah, it's much louder than the engine noise for sure.

I've had the fan clutch activate after leaving it plugged in overnight, even in cold (such as it goes here) weather. It has a noticeable ROAR as it's a big fan with a lot of blades. It usually fades out when I get up to any speed at all. Is that what you're hearing?

Yeah, sounds about right. I take it this is normal then, not a prelude to a problem that will occur? Truck is still new to me so any little sound or oddity I notice I want to find out what it is and confirm it is not anything to worry about.

The next time it does it see if you have the heater on defrost mode at all...if you do then the AC compressor will cycle and likewise your fan clutch. If AC or defrost doesn't change it then it may be something else.

Here's an addition - since I posted this originally it has been happening more frequently, most times when I first start the truck and start driving until I hit 4th. Why is it suddenly doing this? What do I need to look for, because I'm sure something is not right here...

Thanks!

if I am thinking the same sound then it is your fan clutch b/c of your ac compressor, mine does it too. When you take off it sounds like your fan is blowin at 1000mph, through second, third, and when you hit a certain speed or rpm it stops. Try hangin out in second a little longer, mine shuts off at this
Just my thought
