NV5600 Failure
#16
Nv5600's do not break. Ever. Just ask our esteemed sledpullers. G56's on the other hand have been known to break if driven within 100 miles of a sledpulling event. Heck, if the event comes to within 100 miles of a parked g56 truck, the owner will often find that his transmission is neutral in all gears if he is so foolish as to attempt to move his truck.
There has been a tremendous rash of g56 failures in normal use. Shoot, I bet you can find at least 5 people on this forum who have had a problem with a g56, or know someone that has. If that's not proof of a poorly designed transmission, I don't know what is. Additionally, the fact that they don't withstand sledpulling is conclusive proof that they are junk. Just ask any sledpuller!
Frankly, I haven't yet figured out how people can think they are worth a darn when sledpullers break them.

I think there is some NV5600 envy going on.
Hey you guys can come over my house and for $5 I'll let you look at the one I gots in the garage.
20 bucks I let you drive the truck around the block!
On a serious note:
NV5600 do have a tendency to break the mainshaft when sledpulled with the high side of the transfer case. Luckily there is an upgrade shaft marketed by enterprise engine.
Us "esteemed" sledpullers will at least admit that there are deficiences even in our beloved NV5600's...
But the truth hurts so much that you had to start a thread to bash the NV5600
G-Unit and sledpulling=

You guys have been very entertaining with these 2 threads of "my tranny is better than your tranny".......
Can autos be built to handle sled pulling? And if so, do they fail just as often after being built?

Auto's can be built for sledpulling and once built correctly will actually hold up pretty well.
But as anything else mechanical....anything can break at any time.
There are many successful auto sledpullers out there.

No, I don't think there's any nv5600 envy. The motivation for this is that folks see a logical fallacy in the assertion that the g56 is junk because they don't withstand sledpulling. That exact assertion has been made at least once, though I can't remember who did it. Logical fallacies promoted as fact bother me-they always have. If someone had said such a thing about two products I didn't even own but for some reason had joined a forum for, I would have had the same reaction. For what I use a truck for neither one is the best choice-a built auto trans is. I don't generally tow very heavy, but I do like to drag race. Anyway, I'm getting off the subject...

Yes, why don't we all troll/bash/flame somewhere else - this thread will help everyone if it stays focused on the facts...

the last thread just like this one will got almost boring for lack of better description so no, I did not catch the reason you have a spare. Is it because they dont make them any more and you need to stock pile them in case you DO break one?
#29
Yeah having spare since they dont make them anymore is no brainer.
Having an extra anything when you are sledpulling is a good idea because it can all fail.
Dodge hosed us on the tranny deal.

I was so close to the end of my warranty that I only drove it for a couple of days after it started grinding. So no idea how long yours will last, but they said my fluid was pretty contaminated. Tommorow morning I am going on a quest to get the dealership to put in a g56.......... I can't wait a couple more month for my WORK truck. Will keep you guys updated if DC will allow such a thing. Maybe I should start a poll. Wait for months for a nv5600 or get a g56. That should start some fights! I could care less. Just want to go to work and get home every day reliably.
