Normal Operating Temperatures for 48re?

What temperature range should I expect to see on this tranny? I'm having a local shop install a temperature gauge so that I can monitor more closely the doings of the tranny, but they could not tell me what the upper limit is of the operating range. Thoughts?

I'm running about 150°F empty with a 98% stock truck. For testing purposes, I got it up to 180°F by powerbraking.

I'm reading from one of the test ports on the side of the tranny. I believe this is prior to the TC, so readings from the output of the cooler line would be higher. If you're reading temp. from the cooler output, I'd say 200°F would be about your upper 'safe' limit, and maybe 175°F as the upper limit if reading from the test port/pan.

TOM488 I maybe wrong but I would think that the temperature on the output of the cooler would be cooler and not hotter, isn't that why they cal it a cooler

I could have worded that better

I was talking about the line that runs from the tranny into the cooler, so you'd be measuring fluid as it exited the tranny, where it's at it's hottest.

My mind knew what I meant - my fingers weren't cooperating
