Noob question About Cummins with and auto behind them
I really want a 6spd but cant seem to find one I like and that is in my price range. Ive found plenty of autos that are exactly what I want minus the 6spd. Now Ive only driven 1 auto truck. Its was an 05 HO with and auto. It felt really under powerd. My 05 f150 feels like it would pull bus length on it.
Are any of you auto guys happy with your power. All I want ot do to any truck I get is intake, exhaust, and a smarty tuner. So you guys think I will be happy with the auto or just wait on a 6 spd I like. The only advantage to getting an auto for me is that my Soon to be wife would be able to drive it but I really dont care if she can drive it or not. She dosent really need to eve rdrive my truck now and its an auto.
So should I wait on the 6spd or just go auto

Unless you want at the min. to put a good converter and valve body in, don't buy an auto.
The extra money could be put towards a 6 speed truck, but I do not think a stock clutch will hold what you propose either.

Don't go with the 6 speed thinking it's going to be faster. It may feel like it but it's not.
I am extremely happy with my auto...but it's been built.
If you are going to play you are going to have to either upgrade the auto or upgrade the clutch in the 6 speed.
But get the one you want on the front end. Don't settle.

The one im looking at has Suncoast Converter, Valve Body, Billet Input Shaft and Laminated Flex Plate. Mag-Hytec Extra Capacity Rear Diff Cover. Im not worried about racing it or anything I just want it to have plenty of power and at least put a little grin on my face when I step on it. I have a fast car already I really dont need the truck to be to awful fast. I just dont want it to be a turd like the one I drove that was stock.

These trucks (I should say engines) are built to tow

I have an '05 with a 6-speed and I've been very happy with it. No mods though. 100% stock, and pulls like a dream. Never once have I felt underpowered.
I will warn you though, that from a standing start you won't get up to speed like an auto. Too hard to row through the gears that fast. I'm always a little slow off the line with this 6 speed, but I don't mind unless I'm doing lots of city driving, then it gets to be a pain sometimes.
Out on the freeway or through the mountains pulling a load and I'm all smiles all the time.

an auto will be quicker than a 6 speed, these trucks dont like shifting fast and you loose your boost everytime you shift. i have had both, a stick and auto, i like the auto when the truck is empty and everyday driving but when im towing over 10,000 lbs i wish i had the 6 speed back, its always in the right gear and nothing is slipping but, if your looking at the truck with the built auto it will pull alot better than a stock auto, the stock converters on these truck are kinda loose and you really feel it with a heavy load vs empty.
