Noob here

Well I finaly bought my first diesel. It's an 03 four door. I didn't see a noobie section to introduce myself.

It runs and sounds great. (58,056 miles..no fifth wheel or hitch in the back) I have not a clue about diesels. I had a 600hp Cobra that I sold on Friday and got the diesel the same day.

Any info or links that will give me a diesel for dummies would be great. I know the basics, but I'm very interested to know the most popular first mods and the brands. I'm thinking exhaust. What exhaust do I have? Do I need a muffler and tip...or should I replace the whole thing? (this is a DD not a hauler)

Welcome to the DTR, 03! This is the best place that I've found...
Fill out your sig so that we know what you have, go to the top left side of the page, click on user CP, then edit signature.
Browse around in the 3rd gen section, you'll find a lot of good info. If you have questions, ask!

Depends on what you want for exaust... I'd just order a muffler delete and run with what you have for now, until you start adding a lot of power. I have an edge programmer, and I love it.

First mods should be: Air intake, exaust, guages, then a pusher pump (aftermarket fuel pump) and then the programmer. Just my .02...

I forgot about the exhaust part. Since it's an '03 it has a 3.5" exhaust. You might want to step it up to a full 4". You don't need a 5" if you don't plan on going over 550hp unless you just want the sound and cool factor of a 5". As far as brands Silverline has that "bling" factor, but it's expensive, MBRP is great exhaust and the DTR store sells it so you know you'll get a good deal. There's also Magnaflow (also kinda $$$), Rip Rook, and several other smaller companies out there. Just make sure it's mandrel bent. Don't think you have to spend big $$$ for a good exhaust.

Yeah, I'm in the market for a new exhaust...only b/c the one that I have now is bent. since it's bent I might as well go for something better than stock. I don't plan on modding this thing to death, but I would like a better sound than stock. What are your suggestions on that?

What's your price range? Do you want stainless or aluminized? Do you want the tip included? or shop around for one you like? How loud do you want it? Do you want duals? There's lot's of choices out there, but we can narrow it down with answers to those questions.

I think a tip..plus just an aluminized. I would like a little noise comming from a loud Cobra. What are your thoughts? No dual.

Welcome to the site...I don't know how many people out there have sound clips of their exhaust setups, but I know when I was buying, it would have been very helpful in decision making. I feel like I got lucky though, I LOVE the sound of my Silverline.

Being that you have an '03, you don't have to worry about the catalytic converter either, so I would just go turbo back...here are some clips of the exhaust in my signature.

Muffler replacement and tip on the 04.5 and newer is the cheaper route, as is in any exhaust scenario...but you have a 3.5" exhaust...might as well go aftermarket, get a good 4" setup and call her a day...just my two cents!

Thank you. i love the way yours sounds at start up in the first clip. Like I said I'm new to the dodge world. That sound clip means a lot. how does that sound vs. the MBRP?

No problem bud...you'll find that this site will offer up everything that you will need to get what you want out of that truck...and THEN some...if you think that gas performance was addictive, just wait till you start modifying that 7500lb oil burner...pretty crazy that some of these trucks are in the 10s in the 1/4, huh?

By the way, that Cobra sounds REALLY mean!

I'm sorry...why don't I have to worry about the cat converter? Is there a list of the diff between the 03 and up?
